How do I get my PC experience back to normal after setting up OneDrive?

I built my brother a PC and put a fresh Win 11 install, but at some point while I was away he signed up for/ enabled OneDrives takeover of the computer. Now for some odd reason the main Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos, etc. are all on the SSD but within a folder called OneDrive. I can't deselect backing up something like the desktop without all of the files and shortcuts disappearing and becoming inaccessible/non-functional which is ludicrous. Turning the option back on is the only way to access the files again. It's like we've lost the ability to do anything local on the computer unless i

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

    OneDrive settings gone

    You are welcome Uriel.

It is definitely not normal that "Microsoft OneDrive" is not listed either in the Startup Settings page or Task manager.

Do you have the OneDrive icon on the bottom right on taskbar? Is there any error on it?

Can you tell me what the end goal here is? Are you hoping to get rid of OneDrive altogether, or you want to decide when to run OneDrive vs. having it run automatically upon startup? Based on the answer to this I will provde you some suggestion.

    Shared Experiences

    Hi,

Shared Experiences allow you to start a task on one device and finish it on another, or easily set up a remote control or other companion apps on a smartphone. If you don’t want to use the feature, we suggest that you disable it. Kindly follow these steps
    below:

    • Click
      Start.
    • Select
      Settings.
    • Click
      System.
    • Select the Shared experiences link on the left-hand side. Here you will see a switch that lets you toggle the Share across devices feature to the On or Off position.
    • Enable it then restart your computer.
    • Go again to Shared Experiences in Settings app, and disable it completely.

Let us know if you need further assistance.
