Windows 10: How do I get my print spooler to STOP hanging up on print jobs?

For about a month now, print jobs are getting stuck. I'll print one document, then when I go to print another, the second job gets stuck, and the print queue shows the previous job, which completed printing, is still in queue. I have needed to go into services, stop the spooler, then go to spool/PRINTERS and delete whatever is there, then finally restart the spooler to get the next job to print. There's always a document there that will not delete.Although I can get the other documents to print with some level of work, I'd like to get the PC set back to where it printed correctly without al

Print Spooler Service Stopping

Drugged up on Pain Med's, exhausted from barely any sleep for four days and trying to type on a iPhnone. The USB driver and queue can end up stalling. Have you checked the print queue to see if there are jobs stalled or in the Print Spooler folder? Also grab the Process Explorer by Sysinternals from Microsoft.com. It will allow you to see the Sub Process, especially under the System process. See the following:

Clear Printer Spooler Files

• Click Start, type Services.msc in Search box or Click WIN+Q, type “Services.msc” in the open box.
• Services can be found under Computer Management on older operation system (Windows XP)
• Double-click Printer Spooler in the list.
• Click Stop and click OK.
• Open C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.

Why does the Windows 10 Print Spooler hang?

I have Windows 10 installed on three devices and only one of them has a problem with the print spooler hanging. I can transfer the document to one of the other two, PC Desktop or Laptop, and I can print the document without a problem. I can also connect
to the printer, which is wireless, with a browser from the PC that the print spooler is hanging on, so it is not the printer.

Can someone tell me how to fix the print spooler? I tried one suggestion which suggested stopping the print spooler, deleting the files in the PRINTERS folder under Windows/system32/spool/ and two two files were locked by Microsoft Office Publisher even
though I had cancelled the printing and exited Publisher. I selected the printer device and right clicked on "See what's printing" which listed the document as spooling and I cancelled the document which said deleting but did not complete. Something is
rotten in Denmark! :>)

 

Issue after installation with print spooler

I would suggest you to try the steps given below and check if that helps.

Note: All the steps mentioned below holds good for windows 10 as well.

If print spooler keeps stopping in Windows 8.1,
I would suggest to follow the steps given below.

• 
  If the print spooler is not responding to your print commands and print is not happening when printer is fine physically (No paper jam or any error indications on printer hardware). These methods will help
  to clear the pending print jobs (print queue) and hanging spooler service.
  
• 
  Clear the print spooler files where the Operating Systems store printing jobs temporarily, deleting these file will allow the print spooler to start freshly and run smoothly next time.
  
• 
  Go to C -> Windows -> System32 -> Spool -> Printers and delete all files inside this folder. This is the location OS keeps the printing jobs before sending
  to printers. Once you delete these files, print queue will be cleared. The same location is applicable for latest Windows 8 and 8.1 too.
  

If the problem persists, follow the steps given below.

  Go to services under Computer Management.
  
• 
  Double click Print Spooler service and go to
  Recovery tab. Here we can set what that service should do when it fails.
  
• 
  Select ‘Restart the Service’ in Subsequent Failures field. So, it will try restarting print spooler service whenever it fails.
  
• 
  Go to ‘Dependencies’
  tab and make sure all depending services are started. Luckily, only one dependency service for print spooler service which is
  Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service.
  
• 
  Check the RPC service in services and make sure it’s already started.
  

If the issue still persists, the last step would be to check for the printer drivers. If the printer drivers are not installed properly, I would suggest you to follow the steps given below and check if that helps.

• 
  Delete all unwanted printers from your computer.
  
• 
  Make sure all printers are installed with proper drivers.
