Shutting down PC, but forgetting to eject VHD's first.. bad??

    Thank you. I understand.

I have another question, that is related to ejecting VHD(X) drives.

The VHDX drives are encrypted/password protected.

Normally I need to move over to the drive or partition where they are located, the right-click "Eject".

The drives are mounted at startup, using a powershell command, then I click on them so to unlock them using a password.

Would there be a difference between "Eject" or "Unmount"?
    Haven't found an "Eject" command.

  3. VHD disappeared after Windows 11 upgrade

I am perplexed. 3 days ago, I made a VHD on an HDD on my desktop PC. I was running Windows 10 pro v.22H2. Now, this HDD is a 2T drive that has 3 partitions on it (drives E: F: G). I took the F: drive, which had 224 GB free space and allocated 100 GB for the VHD. After initializing and formatting it, it was given a drive letter of J:\. I pasted a copy of Windows 11 ISO onto this drive. My intention was to install Windows 11 onto the VHD so that I could test it out. My next step was to install Windows 11 onto the VHD, so I double clicked on the ISO. Windows Install began. It had been a long time since I had installed a new OS, so I just let it do it's thing. About half way through, I realized that I may have installed the OS onto my C:\ drive instead of the VHD.
After the install was completed, I went to check where it was installed. As I suspected, it was installed on my C:\ drive. It was then that I found that the VHD had disappeared, including the Windows 11 ISO that I had copied into the VHD.
I cannot explain why this happened. I am okay with Windows 11 being my only OS, but still baffled by what had occurred.

How do i get my vhd drive to stop auto ejecting i have windows 11 home

Shutting down PC, but forgetting to eject VHD's first.. bad??

    Desktop Windows 10 x64 Pro - using VHD/VHDX

    Mounting is fine.

But I wonder: when I shut down the PC, without first ejecting the drives...

Is that bad? Or does it not matter and will Windows take care of ejecting?

Could be because one forgot to eject the drives first, or

    because of a power-outage, or

because a program requiring a restart after install and one clicks [OK] too soon, or

because a 'freezing' system, or ... etc.

    Thanks!
