Windows 10: How do I get promoted to administrator?

In real life, I am the administrator on my standalone PC, the only person ever to set it up, install updates or change any settings at all. I today receive the message "This setting is managed by your administrator". How do I become administrator? NB the countless previous responses on Microsoft Community refer to options or folders that don't exist in December 2024.

Promoted Administrator password was changed

I promoted a local user to administrator for windows 11, but after that password was changed automatically and the new one was not shown.. Now I cannot login for this account. How to proceed?

Thanks for the quick response, Yesterday I was talking to the Microsoft customer support answer desk to adjust my promotional email settings to get Canadian Email offers and not US offers. They wanted me to go into Promotional Communication Manager to unsubscribe,
then reboot the computer, re-login and then re-subscribe to the emails. It was after the reboot I was unable to re-subscribe. At first I could not access the manager that was the message above. Today I finally got to access it but there are no options to
re-subscribe to the emails. There is only one option as follows.

Uncheck any topics you don't want to receive, then select "Save"

The Answer Desk told me I would have to reset the Promotional Communications Manager . But are unable to tell me how this is accomplished and suggested the Community Forum for answers. I have tried both Edge and IE with the same results on both.

 

lost all my administrative privileges

1. Log on under your Microsoft account.
2. Open a Command Prompt with cmd.exe.
3. Type these commands and press Enter after each:
   
   net users
   
   (to see the exact user names)
   
   net localgroup administrators "Sree" /add
   
   (assuming that the account "Sree" needs promotion)
