Windows 10: How do I get the new format File Explorer to revert to the old format for the Documents folder?

The Documents folder displays in a way that will never work for me by date of last use. The other folders display just as they always have. I need the Documents folder to do the same. I am desperate. I use my laptop computer strictly for genealogy. I have no idea when I might have last accessed a file. I need them all to display like they used to so I can find them. I have dozens of cascading subfolders and they all display the old way which has always worked for me. This new Documents folder is going to render my computer useless.


A month or so ago when Windows updated, I was able to get File Explorer to revert to the old way by not taking the "tour". The next time I started the computer, it displayed the same "tour" screen. So again, I declined and got the old file structure. Happened a third time and since then it has left everything alone. My problem now is that I had a "tune-up" done by the Geek Squad which included Windows updates and now the Documents folder in File Explorer is in the new format. When I complained to the agent, he said there is no way to go back. There has to be because I was able to do it before, but now the "tour" screen isn't displaying, so I can't do it.


Also, I will never use the Cloud. I simply don't need it. Yes, I'm old, but with all the hacking that goes on these days, I would never trust it. But fortunately, I don't have any need for it.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

How do I recover from a format?

...and you didn't have a backup? What's wrong with you?!?! I hope this is a learning experience for not having a backup. *Wink

I would do as other suggest, but the more you do with the drive the worse it will get. Did the Windows install actually get to writing Windows files? You might find some data could be corrupted if that's the case.
