  1. how do i get the win8 star screen back? the REAL win 8 startscreen

i've used win 8, and 8.1 since day 1, and have fallen inlove with the zippiness and productivity enhancing start screen. the start menu to me is taking 35 steps back to the 90s. now that i have 10, i want that back, is there an extension or 3rd party vendor who has come up with that?

    what i used to have:

and now what i have to deal with:

how do i get the win8 star screen back? the REAL win 8 startscreen [IMG]

first of all, i want horizontal scrolling, not vertical. its more intuitive. second, i want to scroll with my mouse arrow, not the scroll wheel, i have my mouse set on fastest curser, and i could get to the end of my start screen apps in a quarter of a second, now i have to scroll, and scroll, and scroll, and now my finger is tired. third, the 3-app-wide app-group rule is just asinine. it makes you have to scroll even more because of that in and of itself. 4th, (purely aesthetics) how do i get rid of the taskbar when on the startscreen? it looks dumb.

    any help?

    :)

  3. How do I get the Start screen to come on first in Windows 10?

I'm not sure if its possible to start as in Win 8 but if you like seeing your Tiles then you can Click-on Start so you can view the tiles, then move your pointer to righthand edge of the start box\view, from here you can enlarge the Start Tiles to the required
size then Windows should remember the setting so each time you Click-on Start Button you will see your Tiles, remember that you can add or take away tiles just like Win 8.

    Hope this helps!

    Update!

Go to Settings, Personalization, from here you can select Use Start full screen

    Others would argue the opposite.
Vertical scrolling is the result of user feedback.

Groups are another result of feedback.
There were no groups in Windows 8.0

The visible taskbar is another feedback request due to users being lost without it.
Sorry, no help here. 10 is what it is.
The menu in 10 is just another form of the metro UI as a forced layer on top of the desktop.

The only solution is to NOT use 10.
You can't do this in 10.

There are many out there that even resist calling the 10 menu
whether by default or in tablet mode what it actually is.

    It is the metro UI.

If 10 is where you will stay,
there is a desktop solution if you're ok with desktop icons.

    You could try Stardock Fences.
There you can design your own desktop icon groups to whatever size you like.

Desktop icons function the same as tiles.
The program has the option to instant show / hide keeping the desktop clear.

  6. well bummer. i guess i'll just have to mourn the loss of truly innovative productivity, and try to forget the experiences i had *Sad

i wish Microsoft had just held firm to their direction, everyone would have eventually just gotten used to it. i put win 8.1 as the best desktop experience i have ever had. (and i've been computing since right before win 95 came out, so i had a small spattering of tinkering with 3.1) ah well. maybe in the coming months something will come up like classic shell did for win8 when everyone was whining.
