How do I get this computer started

My wife's ASUS UL80V is in trouble. She chose to install Windows 10 and then forced to have the updates installed. After the most recent update, can't get the machine to start.

When we push the power on, things look normal for a few seconds, even the little S/U tune then...black screen. We have a little "loading" icon until we push the power off... have tried several times and have allowed to it to try a lot of time intervals.

Have tried to get to safe mode via F8, F11, F12 & escape... no help

Have tried the windows 10 repair usb... nothing different with start up.

    What do I try next?

    :)

Where do I go to get this process started? I received the following email from Microsoft Outlook: Subject: Error with your new mobile phone partnership.

I use a server and we have the outlook app on our desktop how do i get to the spot where it has options so i can delete a partnership. Still confused.

I am also having the same issue (because my mobile phone has been replaced so many times).

Where do I go to get toe the Outlook Web App? Is this simply outlook.com? If so, I'm unable to see a link that says 'Options'. Can someone please help as I'm unable to get my email nor my contacts to sync to my phone.

    Thanks,

Can you do a "Restart"?.....If so hold down Shift Key at the same time as the Restart.....this will give you options to repair and fault find.
Unfortunately this does not work on a Start, it must be a Restart.

Nope. With computer off, I hit the power button, I see "ASUS", then a blue Microsoft icon, then a "loading" icon (clockwise rotating dots), then black screen with the loading icon remaining, I hear the MS startup tune, and then nothing except the loading icon.....

Have you tried a hard reset ? Press and hold power button until laptop turns off, disconnect all peripherals from usb, remove battery and power plug. Press and hold power button 5-10 sec's to release residual charge. Repeat just to make sure. Plug power cord back in ONLY, NOT battery. Press power button, should get warning screen stating the Windows was not shut down normally. Select the “Start Windows Normally” dialog if it is not already highlighted. Windows should start. Reconnect the battery if hard reset is successful. Consider an in place upgrade/repair too - Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    maynard64,

Presuming you did not create recovery discs for the Asus computer.

As far as using another approach, try downloading the Media Creation Tool to a working PC, not to install Windows 10, but to do a Repair:
    Windows 10

Load it to a flash drive.
Launch MediaCreationTool.exe, and select: Create installation media for another PC

Boot from the flash drive on the problem PC, and the Windows Setup wizard should appear.
Do not use the Install now button!

Instead, click Repair your computer*in the lower-left corner.

See if it works for you.

From a computer that is working, I would try making a USB flash drive or DVD of Kyhi's recovery drive and booting the computer from that. Here's how to make a USB flash drive bootable:
Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive

At step nine, make sure to use the fat32 file system:
    9. To format the partition, type format fs=fat32 quick, and then click ENTER.

At step 12 you will mount Kyhi's recovery drive ISO file, and then copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash drive:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

Windows 8 and 10 will mount ISO files with no extra software required. If you are using a Windows 7 computer, you will need a program such as WinISO:
How do I mount iso image file in Windows 7?

If you can get into Kyhi's recovery drive, you can do two things. You can back up important important data (or even the entire hard drive) to an external storage device such as a USB external hard drive.

You can also force the computer to boot into safe mode using the command prompt:
Safe Mode - Start Windows 10 in - Windows 10 Forums

Well, I tried this method, both with a USB drive and a DVD... same results as before.

How do we know the laptop would even try and boot from one of these alternatives?

  11. maynard64,

Is the laptop set to boot fro USB or from a DVD in the BIOS?

Does it provide entry into Setup (F2, I think) or Boot Options (F12, maybe) right when you start it?

    OK..progress made, finally.

I clicked F2 as computer started, it went to a new screen with boot options. The options showed that the USB and DVD were a priority but #3 & #4. I changed the DVD to #1 priority and did a boot with the DVD installed.

New screen with "pop-up"... not sure which option to click on... it states

"It looks you started an upgrade and booted from installation media. If you want to continue with the upgrade, remove the media from your PC and click Yes. If you want to perform a clean installation instead, click No."

    Yes or No????

  13. How do I get this computer started

    maynard64,

If you select 'No', to proceed with a clean install, you will remove every file/program on the laptop, and may get into an issue with the Product Key. I do not know what will happen.

Wasn't you wife in the proess of Upgrading, then she diverted from there? I would think you would select 'Yes', and continue upgrading.

Also. if you hit Esc (Escape) at the screen with the Yes or No, does it take you to the Repair option?

I hit escape... took me to "Windows Setup" screen. There were option for language, time blah blah... I hit yes.

Took me to a screen that sates "Install Now" or a link to "repair your computer"...
