Windows 10: How do I get Windows Media Player to recognize the files it sent to "Unknown Artist?"

I recently bought a new PC and thought my music files, stored in my One Drive, would transfer to Media Player or Windows Media Player Legacy. Some are showing up as normal, but most aren't. I have 2,800 songs showing up in "Unknown Artist" where before, they were all organized in folders by artist and album. I don't know how to get either Media Player or Windows Media Player Legacy to have them show up as I originally had them stored. To find all of those CDs and re-rip them into new files to this new computer would be a stupid waste of time. Is there an easy fix to this or am I screwed? One

I have tried this but does not work for me.

Looks like Media Player can not handle WAV files.

I have noticed that in most MP3 files recognise correctly artists.

However, all WAV files (vast majority of my collection) are dumpud under Unknown artists.

Really frustrating. That beg the question why Microsoft retired Groovy, a perfectly good application and replace it with something that does not work.

Any ather suggestion?

 

Media Player - Unknown Artist

Hello all,

I have a VZW Imagio that I absolutely love. I am trying to sync music from Winamp 5.56 on a Win7 PC to this smartphone. When I send the music to my SD card I get alot of songs that come up in the mobile media player that say unknown artist. I have made sure
the Artist label and Album Artist label in Winamp are populated correctly but still no go. Can anyone help with this, and what should I be looking for?

Ok. This has been driving me batty and there doesn't seem to be any one good answer out there. Here's what I've found. Media Player was NOT the default app for opening MP3 and WAV files, even though I had my library set inside of it. Right click on each type of music file....MP3...WAV etc and select Media player as the default app to open it. Once I did this, the unknown artist and album issue went away and things displayed correctly in Media Player. Hope this helps someone else too!
