How do I hide Windows Update, Windows 10 Build 10061?

    Hi.

I updated my laptop to Windows 10 Preview and I am trying to get back my "modded" display adapter from the EightForums for the Mobile Intel Series 4 Driver.

Link: Solved Mobile Intel Series 4 and Intel HD Graphics 1st Generation

I installed the driver, but I've hit a snag -- I'm unable to hide the update which forces my display adapter back to the WDDM 1.1

I stumbled upon a regedit for getting back the Windows Update in 10's Tech Preview:

Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX] "IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings] "UxOption"=dword:00000000[/quote] This is supposed to work... however I get the below error:

How do I hide Windows Update, Windows 10 Build 10061? [IMG]

This stops me from getting the old Windows Update feature. I get the old Control Panel without the Windows Update link.

I've checked to see if I am running as Administrator, which I am, so is there some running processes stopping the registry edit?
    Safe Mode also didn't help.

Help would be great in either finding some way to get the old Windows Update feature back, without the above error stopping it or some way to stop the auto-update for my old display adapter which forces me to use OpenGL 1.1.

    Current Display Adapter:
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    :)

Ugh... I had an inkling that may have been the case.

So is there nothing I can do stop or hide the update, barring stopping the internet and never updating again?

I read somewhere you disable certain updates if you know the update code or something like that...

Yep no way I know of to stop Updates from occurring except to change your internet connection to metered.

How do I hide Windows Update, Windows 10 Build 10061? [IMG]

Set it to metered and WU will not Dl the updates.

This would mean if I decided to remove the metered connection sometime in the future the particular update will be forced again until Microsoft decides to add a hide update feature to the system, right?

Well... I guess I'll just hope it's done in the future. I guess I'll be limited in just a few things till then.

    Thanks for the help! *Biggrin

You might try to "rollback" the driver in Device Manager, then set connection to metered. If you somehow get the update again, roll it back again, until MS gives the option to select updates. Also, if you have the driver files you prefer, put them in a safe place (like a USB or ext drive) and use the option in update drivers to search a location on your PC for the update. It will display what it found and give you the option to install.

    As always..... backup, backup, backup!

This is an old thread, but going to put my 2 cents in - consider that I do not have Windows 10 installed and have never used it, so this information is taken from Win 7/8.

Go to "Control Panel > Windows Update > Change Settings" and select "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them". Now you should be able to see the driver after it is downloaded and before it is installed. Right click on the driver and select "Hide" and the driver will not be installed and it will not be download again until you unhide it.

  11. Which ... is probably why you apparently do not know that option is not available in Win10.

Sorry ... but you should not be giving advice for Win10 problems based on info from prior OS versions -- Win10 has changed quite a few of the rules, especially in the area of Windows Updates.
