No audio output devise installed since Windows 10

I have a HP TouchSmart 320 PC, since update to Windows 10, I have been experiencing minor issues. Most fixable, except for the "no audio output devise installed" message. I have done the following steps, but it will not allow update to finish. I have
uninstalled IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and restarted computer and it still won't update. I have tried to download Realtek High Definition (HD) Audio Driver and it will install but when I click on sound, video and game controllers it doesn't appear there
for me to select.

2. In ‘Start Search’ type Device Manager, press Enter (provide administrative credentials if prompted)

3. Click the “+” next to Sound, video and game controllers to drop down the menu

4. Check the status of any device listed in that category by right-clicking that device, clicking Properties, and then under the General tab check what it says under “Device status”. Let us know what
the status was.

5. Then check all the devices (especially any that had a problem under “Device status”) listed in this category for updated drivers by right-clicking that device and then clicking Update Driver Software… (this step may take a moment
so be patient).

Windows 10 Audio input to programs broken

Recently my audio input, from USB headset and USB guitar cable have stopped working. Going into Windows 'Sounds' and enabling 'Listen to this device' outputs the audio as expected; the problem is not with the devices. However, as soon as I try to use them with any other program, discord, for example, no audio input is detected by discord.

I have tried everything I can think of and some suggestions from Googling around;

• Updating everything - windows, drivers, all related software
  
• Rolling windows back to the last build
  
• Trying different USB ports
  
• Reinstalling drivers and software
  
• Running Windows troubleshooters
  
• Playing with device properties settings
  

But nothing seems to work, any suggestions?
