    How do I install a driver if the driver doesn't recognise the device?


    Hi, I recently picked up a webcam from my inlaws, a "Live! Cam Optia" old I know, and it worked fine plug & play. I later tried to connect it to my Android phone, and it gave an error, so I gave up with that idea and plugged it back in, not giving it much thought. I tried to use it again recently and I found it's no longer working, and no longer shows up as "Live! Cam Optia" in the list of devices, now it simply shows as USB 2.0 camera. I can't reinstall the drivers, as the device is not recognised, and when I try removing/uninstalling the device it just reidentifies itself when plugged

    Hi Paloma, thanks for your help, I haven`t been able to solve the problem, I can`t try the first solution because when I enter to device manager, the driver doesn`t even appear, secondly I tried installing the driver that you gave me, but it didn`t work, and I also installed the manufacturer`s tool and tried scanning for missing drivers, but it said that all the new versions of the drivers were installed. I`m starting to think that maybe its a hardware issue, but I don`t think so, because when I first got this laptop it was working, and as soon as I updated the drivers, it stopped working

    Laptop driver/reformat question

    This is excellent advice. Writing down the list of installed devices prior to re-formatting will save you a lot of heartache. With that list, you won't have to try to figure out exactly which wireless card or web cam driver you need since there will likely be several to choose from.

    hmmm... well your sound device is there.... just you not giving it the correct installation files.
    what version of windows you installing? 32bit / 64bit... this could be why it wont recognise the drivers you feeding it..

    also, in device manager, disable the device... then scan for new devices... then use the "automatically install drivers and search the internet"... perhaps you can get a generic driver to work till your XFI arrives
