    How do I install a restore file from an external hard drive?


    I backed up my Windows 11 system in a restore file onto an external harddrive and I am trying to restore it onto a Windows 10 system. When I right click on it, is gives me a "Restore Options" option, but when I expand on that, its asks me to find it in the network. I made sure to share it from the admin account and copied the network location, but it keeps saying "Windows was not able to find any backup sets on *\\network name*. Please select a different location. I don't understand what is going wrong as there are nearly 200 back up files within that location. Do I have to do it one back up f

    Free hard drive backup/restore program?

    I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi John,

    We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
    The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

    Obviously you're looking for something besides your Xp Pro utility that does this?
