Windows 10: How do I know if my microsoft operating system license is lifetime and transferable on new...

Hi ,I every few years 3-4 years keeps buying a laptop and keep paying for Microsoft operating license I believe. How do I know if my Microsoft operating system license is lifetime and transferable on new laptop ? Also how do I transfer the license if i am going to stop using old laptop and start using a new one ?Moreover, do I in such cases get a laptop with open source operating system and then installed windows on it and if so is there a video tutorial for it ?Thanks

Is Windows 10 license free for lifetime for new laptops?

I recently bought a Windows 10 licensed Lenovo Ideapad 100s Laptop. Is the windows 10 operating system in it is valid for lifetime or for a year or some definite time periods??? I will be happy if it is for lifetime. Also i want to know windows 10 is inbuilt
with dolby sound divers???

Yes, thank you, these are the relevant steps. I only want to point out one thing, since the instructions are a bit misleading.

Once you get to step 5 and see a list of devices linked to your Microsoft account, you need to select your old device from the list. So open the Activation page from the new device and select the old device in the list and mark it as This is the device I’m using right now.

My initial understanding was that you need to find your new device in the list and mark it as the currently active one. What you're actually doing is selecting the device from which to take the Windows license.

I have now successfully transferred my Windows license to my new device.

i bought the license. My laptop was originally loaded with win 7 and was upgraded free couple of months.

in this case, if i understand you correctly, i can transfer with below steps. Right.?
