Windows 10: How do i know if the windows 10 product key has been changed to my new oem key?

so i purchased a new windows 10 pro retail oem key online as i wanted to do a clean install of an old laptop which had a preinstalled os license on it. the laptop is one of my kids previous school laptop, which was administered by the school. when i tried to clean install from usb, i was not presented with the option to enter an activation key. so i assume that the install is somehow still picking up the old activation key from bios. i followed the instructions provided in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/reinstalling-windows-10-oem-after-changing-my-hdd/6d4f0191-5c1c-46c4

activate windows 7 oem key

Ive installed windows 7 using retail disk but with an oem key it worked fine you can always change the key from right clicking my computer-properties then selecting change product key

indeed OEM's have embedded keys a OEM upgrade is for machines with OEM copies and DO NOT COME WITH A KEY! sadly many vendors confuse the two because pre-windows 10 'OEM" came with a key
a end user should always buy a Retail OR "System builder OEM" copy when it comes to windows 10 system builder is not `OEM` you can blame microsoft for the retarded terminology screw up

it sounds like the op bought a pirated copy with no key microsoft does not ship windows 10 on optical disks .... they use flash drives
