Windows 10: How do i login to a local PC to share filed in Windows 10

I have followed all of the ridiculous instructions and they all stop right before the login part.


I can see the PC on the network. I double-click the icon in Windows Explorer and a window asking for username and password appears.


It knows that the PC belongs to John for example, so it asks for a Password.

I enter John's password and it doesn't work.

I inter John's MS Account Password and it doesn't work.

I have John share files with everyone and try it again, doesn't work.

I try using the various network nomenclatures like //JOHN_PC/john for the user name. and both his local machine password and his MS Account password.

I have John add me to his MIcrosoft Family and give me adminstrator rights on this PC.

I then try to login as me...nope. doesn't work.


WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT?

Every single attempt that I have made in the last two hours SHOULD HAVE WORKED.


What is the correct way to login to a PC to share files in Windows 10.


And please don't start with this crap about "give me your latest version of Windows...it updates automatically whether I like it or not. SO I HAVE THE LATEST VERSION ON BOTH PCs. I double checked. Quit hiding behind that when you offer support. Yes, the PC is on. Yes, I can see the network. Yes I can see the computer where I want to grab some files. NO I CAN'T LOGIN.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Can't login to my windows 10 PC

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

• 
  Are you trying to login to Microsoft account or local account?
  
• 
  If its Microsoft account are you able to login using the web interface?
  

I suggest you to use the on-screen keyboard and try to login. Follow the steps below:

Click on the Ease of Access icon at the right bottom of the screen and select On-screen keyboard and check if issue persists.
