How do I make 1 Reg file that restores 5 custom text settings?

Windows Update frequently puts my custom text settings for these 5 fonts (below) back to their default values. This is an annoyance, to have to re-do them every time. I was wondering:

1.) How do I create a backup of the original / default values? Where are these Registry keys? (is this how you refer to them?)

2.) I have been changing them in Winaero Tweaker . . . Could I then make one Registry file that can restore all 5 of them at once?

. . . So, if the fonts go back to the default values, I think I would then just have to click the Reg file, do a Restart, and then they'd be back . . . (right?)

WinaeroTweaker does not have a way to do this:

How to import and export tweaks you did with Winaero Tweaker - Winaero . . . 08/15/17 Version 0.9 . . . 4. A number of tweaks related to advanced system appearance like "System font", "Status bar font" and so on won't be exported. The advanced appearance options are not officially supported in modern Windows versions. Importing them can cause unexpected behaviors in the OS, so I have decided to exclude them from import and export for now. Please consider configuring these options manually when required . . . How to import and export tweaks you did with Winaero Tweaker

3.) If I wanted to change the font, size, or bold/non-bold, how do you know what values to change, and what they are? Is it possible to do this manually, without Winaero Tweaker?

    Details:

    previous laptop - Win Vista
1.) it is at an adjusted DPI of 120%
2.) the screen resolution is set to 1440 x 900

    new laptop - Win 10
1.) the DPI is now set in the Registry in "LogPixels" ... I had it set at the next size up ... Medium 125%, 120
. . . I see that when you have changed this setting, though, it won't let you change the Zoom
. . . so, I have put "LogPixels" back to ... Smaller 100%, 96 (default) ... and Zoom is now set to 100%
2.) the comparable screen resolution would be 1600 x 900 ... but this seems too small
    . . . so, I have set it to 1280 x 720

I have been using Winaero Tweaker to modify these 5 fonts (below):
1.) The first number is the Windows default
2.) The second number is at a zoom of 125%. If it can't be 12 pt, the necessary size is stated ... then the reason
3.) make all of these fonts "Liberation Sans," Bold

    ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 11 works for SeaMonkey / E-Mail / Server Settings / Advanced
    ... ... ... ... ... ... ... but 11 is too big for the AdwCleaner menu

    5.) Regular, 9 ... 12 pt ... Window Title Bars

How do you want to open this?

I'm not used to using a registry editor. How do I make a text file with a
    .reg
extension? Is there an application or a folder where I would find this?

  3. How do I change from using Notepad to something else so I can read zipped files?

From the original post, it sounds as if the .zip files got incorrectly associated (with Notepad) somehow. The registry fix/file I linked above "zip_fix_w10.reg"
will restore the default file associations settings for .zip files.

    Instructions:

    1. Right-click
    zip_fix_w10.reg
and click "Save Target" as or similar option in your web browser.

    2. Save the file to your desktop.

    3. Right-click on the downloaded file, and click "Merge"

    4. Click "Yes" when the User Account Control window prompts for your consent...("Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC")

    That should do it!

How do I make 1 Reg file that restores 5 custom text settings?

Have you seen 'System Font Size Changer'? An easy way to change the size of system fonts that I have been using without issue for a while. It may not be exactly the Registry file you are after but the font sizes can be changed all in one go. Some experimenting is need to know what sizes are best for your computer but once these are known, it perhaps isn't too much trouble to take note of them and re-enter the settings when necessary, log off and back on again. Either that or export the settings for re-entering (not tried by me).

System Font Size Changer - WinTools.Info

    Edit:
I just tried the 'Export' function and it creates a .reg file.

I saw that before, and the Advanced version:

    WinTools.Info - Advanced System Font Size Changer . . . Advanced System Font Changer - WinTools.Info

I didn't take a close enough look at it. I didn't think it could make the fonts "bold."

I see now how you have to click on what you want to change, and then the menu appears . . . and it does exactly what I'm asking about, it makes the Reg file for quick restoration - I see that that works . . .

It looks like the Advanced version is better . . . thank you!!! thank you!!! thank you!!!

Thanks to you too. I didn't even know there was an advanced version. *Smile

I don't know why the individual font size settings were removed from W.10. They are needed, what with monitors having high resolution these days. Finer resolution always means smaller system fonts and I think a lot of people would like to keep the scaling to 100% for best definition while changing only the system font sizes.
