Windows 10: How do I make Microsoft Photos the default viewer for .webp files?

The WindowsApps folder where it resides is hidden, and I'm led to believe that I should keep it that way for security reasons.When I go to the settings menu > apps, and I select the default programs menu, selecting .wepb files currently set to Chrome, Photos is not on the list, nor is it selectable from the Microsoft Store options not that I can install anything from the Store - a problem I have been reporting for years without any supportSo how do I make Windows' native image viewer the default image viewer for this file type?

Cannot view animated WebP images in Windows Photo Viewer (Windows 7)

I've noticed recently that websites or browsers now show animated image files as WebP images instead of GIFs. Whenever I save them I notice in my folder in Windows Explorer, there is no image preview like there was with GIFs - it's just the generic image
thumbnail. When I click on the WebP file to open with Windows Photo Viewer, I get an error message saying "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo
Viewer."

I have right-clicked on the file, chosen "Properties" and then "change" to make Photo Viewer the default program in which to open them, but it still doesn't work. I also saw a codec offered online to install so you can view WebP images in Photo Viewer, but
that still doesn't work.

Is there any way at all to overcome this? Or am I stuck opening these files only in Google Chrome or other browsers? It's very frustrating that I can see image previews for the GIFs and open them with Photo Viewer but not these files.

 

Windows 10, Outlook 2016 and quick preview for .webp files

I do not known what happen recently but I guess it is related to a windows update.

I was able to quick preview .webp file attachment in outlook 2016, but all of sudden, it is not working anymore.

My file association are now associate with Google Chrome.

I was expecting to see Microsoft Photo in the list of available application to open the .webp files but it not listed.

Any suggestion?

I suggest you to follow the below steps in order to change the default image viewer to Paint.

• In search,
• Type Default Programs.
• Check whether Windows Photo Viewer is listed in the list.
• Left click on the photo viewer and select the option paint.
