Windows 10: How do I make only one of my USB ports inactive during sleep

I want to make only 1 USB port inactive when I set the laptop to sleep so that the external fan can turn off at night. I don't want to do the same with the other port as its extremely convenient to wake up the laptop with my wireless mouse.

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

USB ports inactive after Win 10 upgrade

Thank you for your reply.

It was the Intel driver install log that shows the 'unknown error' at the end of trying to install the new driver.

My PC is ASUSTek V-P7H55e X.0x

133 bus BIOS: American Mega 0504 07/16/2010

Current USB Intel 5 series/3400 Chipset - 3B34 and 3B3c

there are 8 USB ports and the above driver is shown as being in place for 2 of these whilst 2 others are 'Generic USB Hub' 2 others USB Root Hub' and the seventh my printer. I expect the eight is the scanner which is not currently turned on.

>Step 1: I suggest you to check for the driver status in Device Manager.

1. Right click on the Start menu, click on Device Manager, and check if there are any exclamatory mark on any of the drivers.

2. If so, right click on the drive, click on Properties and let us know the Device status.

3. If you find any error codes, I suggest you to refer to the below article to find for that error code and perform the respective troubleshooting steps.

There are no marks or yellow triangles.

>Step 2: Update USB Controllers

• Go to Device manager in control panel.
• Select Device manager and a Device Manager window will pop-up.
• Double Click on USB Controllers to expand.
• Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and select Update.

This does not report that any updates are available.
