  2. How do I make Google my default search provider in Windows 10?

After posting my inquiry, I found out about the Chrome extension Chrometana which redirects Cortana queries from Bing to Google. This morning I received your email informing me of the Bing2Google Chrome extension which does the same thing as Chrometana.

I really like being able to search my laptop and the web using Cortana from my task bar, I just wish it had been an option I could have opted for from Windows 10 Settings instead of having to rely on a 3rd party extension.

  3. How do I make Google my default search provider in Windows 10?

    Hi Wayne,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you would like Google as search engine for Cortana. However, the default search engine for Cortana currently is Bing. If you would like to change it to google, you may check with Google support for any extension that be can be used with
Google Chrome (after setting it as default browser) that can serve the purpose.

Important: Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third
Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

How do I make windows search, search in my SSD and HARD DRIVE?

No need for the pictures. Open File Explorer and search. There are way better tools out there than File Explorer, that do a far greater job.

    Hey McSweg,
From what I understand you can't. Cortana / Search Windows only searches the C: Drive and not all of it (using the default indexing). They removed "My Stuff" which I believe would allow to search other drives, etc.

I've always found Windows incredibly slow to search, even when it's indexed every file. You seem to be use to searching from the Windows Cortana / Search bar, and don't want to install 3rd party software, But if you're willing to learn how to run something a bit more technical, I can highly recommend the FreeCommander file manager. It's free, has icons for each drive, and performs searches at about 10x the speed of Windows.

ohante, tell me about that. Especially when connecting to a network share and Windows wants to pull the file info and spends hours just showing the green bar.

Everything Search is by far the best search utility available right now. Try it, I'm sure you won't go back.

As above Everything search will index everything on the internal and external drives.
It can be set to run on boot or launch when you need it.
It is much more efficient and effective than Windows search.
    The search results are instantaneous.
The more characters you type the narrower the search results.

Just click on the Network icon on Freecommander's toolbar and you'll see your connected systems just like they are in Windows File Explorer. Select a system on the net, and then click the search icon, enter part or all of the name for the file or folder you're looking for, and click the Find icon. Or navigate to a folder on a remote system and do the same. It pulls results much faster than Windows searches. I didn't review that Youtube video tutorial above, but there are 3 parts to it. It may cover all this.

Freecommander is based on Total Commander Total Commander - Wikipedia but is free and a bit easier to use.

  14. I use Everything Search on all my systems.

    Note:

When you delete something using Everything Search it is gone, just like it would be gone using regedit.
    No Recycle Bin.
Everything Search is a powerful tool.

    So be careful.

Hmmm... it doesn't for me. When I delete a file from Everything Search's results, it does go to the Recycle bin. (Just tested it right now to confirm before posting)
