How do I make WMP default application for music CDs?

I posted here just over a week ago because I was trying to install WMP on my PC; thanks to you guys I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.

Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.

    All help greatly appreciated *Smile

    :)

  2. [Solved] Windows Media Player x64

I said in my opening post that I was already using the 64-bit version of WMP when I initiate WMP manually. I have no problems with it, it works well.

However, When I double-click a .wma, .mp3 or .flac file, the 32-bit version starts. This is the problem. How do I make the 64-bit version the default for music files?

    WIN10/WMP - how do I add a library?

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, that does not work. WMP does not allow you to create a library file location. It lists some default locations (I do not know how WMP decides which folders should be default folders). NONE of the default folders
have my music files in them.

I have therefore moved my files from their original location to a folder location that WMP thinks should be a default folder location. That's solves the problem, but it's ridiculous that a user cannot designate an existing folder to be the music library
    location.

How do I make WMP default application for music CDs?

    Use the Auto Play option.

Right click at Start button > Control Panel > top right, click View by : select either small or large > select Auto Play > scroll down to CDs heading > at Audio CD, click the pointer and select Play audio CD (Windows media Player) > click Save when done.

*** When you are at Auto Play, check out other options and see if you can use one of them.

................... I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.

Go to Start button > All apps > scroll down to alphabet W > open it > Windows Media Player should be listed there.
If yes. right click at it > click More > click Pin to Taskbar.

How do I make WMP default application for music CDs?

Yes, I was looking in the right place.
Last week, when I discovered that WMP was actually installed, I did manage to get it onto the Start Menu, and from there create a link to the task bar. Just looking now, I thought that it had disappeared from the Start Menu, but I found it under applications!!
It's almost as if my PC refused to acknowledge the presence of WMP; even if I create links to launch the program, it won't be included in the default programs--very strange, since it is after all preinstalled Microsoft software.*Confused

The issue is not Windows. It's your computer.

I have Windows media player as a selection as default program.

Yes, I realise that, hence my posting on this forum. Something must have happened when I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium. I was hoping that someone could help me (don't know how!) get WMP back into the list of default programs. *cry

Thank you for that, davidhk, much appreciated. I'll run the repair install later this evening (I'm working at the moment and need to use my PC). I'll get back to you tomorrow with the results! *Biggrin

Hi, an easier step for WMP is to go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features on or off, find Windows Media Player and 'uninstall' WMP using that, then 'reinstall' it using that. I did that when I went looking for WMP's shortcut.

Oddly, and others have noted this, there are 2 folders containing WMP, one in Program Files, one in Program Files (x86) - and that's a clean Win 10 install. The contents are slightly different.
@Florio: don't expect all items from your Win 7 start menu to appear in the Win 10 start menu. They simply don't. The answer is to use Classic Shell - you can still use the Win 10 menu with a keyboard shortcut, but Classic Shell will feel a lot more comfortable- and you can launch universal apps from it too.

Win 10's start menu only seems to respect the top folders in a start menu structure and loses the rest now - it used to take (some of the) contents of the subfolders and show them in alpha order.

Thank you for your input, dalchina. You've solved my problem!! I ended up not doing a repair install, because I did not want to have to reinstall all of my non-Windows programs. *Cool
