How Do I Permanently Disable Microsoft Surface-ACPI Client Control

    Hi there..

I've seen threads here talking about how to fix a problem with battery charging with the Microsoft Surface docking station by re-installing or updating the drivers on the Microsoft Surface ACPI-Client Control in device manager. That ALMOST resolves the problem but not quite.

I have an original Surface Book and after a couple of years of use, all of a sudden the Surface Dock stopped charging it. The white light went off and there is no connection available when connected to the laptop - even though any devices that I plug into the docking station USB ports light up but don't correspond with the laptop because of the dropped connection. I purchased another Surface Dock thinking it was the issue. The new one worked for a day and then the light went off and it stopped working.

I found an article in this forum which suggested deleting the Microsoft Surface ACPI-Client Controls (2 of them) in device manager and then holding down the volume up and power buttons for 30 seconds for BIOS to be re-read. That worked great until I turned off the laptop and turned it back on again. The drivers had re-installed themselves and the same issue was present. I updated the drivers with no luck and then ended up disabling them. That worked great until, again, I turn the laptop off and then back on again. So, every time I turn off the laptop and turn it back on, I am forced to hold down the volume up and power buttons simultaneously until the white light comes on and the connection is restored.

I tried following a BIOS suggestion to disable ACPI at the BIOS level but I never could find the options in BIOS for ACPI. The options discussed in the suggestion don't appear to exist on my Surface Book.

Does anyone happen to have run across this crazy situation and know a fix?

    Thanks much!

    :)

What is the model number of the device?

    4. In the Advanced System Properties window, click on the
Hardware tab and select Device Installation Settings.
    5. When in Device installation settings, select "No, let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from Windows update".
    6. Save the selected preference and restart the system.

    Hope it helps.

  4. How Do I Permanently Disable Microsoft Surface-ACPI Client Control

    Microsoft ACPI battery control

This problem originally manifiested itself when battery status showed 55% and not charging. Dell site suggested update bios and enter user start date. Now got to 79 %. Disabling Microsoft ACPI battery control in device manager, settings battery now shows
100%. Re-enable and same problem reappears. All diagnostics show battery to be good. Hardware diagnostics find nothing wrong.

This is on a Dell 15 inspiron 2 in 1 laptop. Problem seems to have started with Windows 10 update in July.

Anyone experiencing similar problems and have a fix?
