Windows 10: How do I re-format a 4 TB drive to NTFS used in a Linux raid EXT2(?)

I have a bunch of these bare drives (Seagate ST 4000DM000) that I'm told came from a Linux raid set-up. I want to use them as back up external NTFS drives in WIndows 10 Home. Windows' Disk Management can't even see them and I don't care about the data in them. All I want is to simply make them usable in WIndows 10. How do I format these to NTFS formatted drives? Please advise. Thank you.

Windows Was Unable to Format This Drive - new 6 TB HGST drive

I started this process today, after first changing the Power Plan to Always On, and then going into advanced settings for disk drive inactivity setting. I am actually using a USB 3 docking cradle that supports either size drive. It has two docks, so it can do a copy operation on its own. Manufacturer is Orico, and it has been reliable.

Even so, I left my system and then came back about 90 minnutes later. The drive was no longer spinning and the DISKPART format command still showed "0 percent completed.

I did not have this problem when I used the Windows format command. I should note that using this same hardware I have formatted a number of HGST 4 TB drives without incident.

I know someone suggested Linux, but I'd like to work with Windows.

 

How do I format a 2 TB thumb drive?

My printer does not recognize my 2 TB thumb drive when I put it into my printer to create a pdf or jpeg from a scan. Any suggestions on what the formatting specs should be when I re-format the drive with Windows 10?

The Drive tools/Manager/Format specs in my Windows 10 are for:

Capacity showing as 1.90 TB

File System (3 choices are exFat (default), NTFS, and 512KB)

Allocation Unit size ( has many choices)

I usually check "Quick format" box.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
