Windows 10: How do I recover files after a Windows update?

My computer recently updated and when it restarted, all my files, documents, pictures, and browser information was gone. How do I get it back? I've tried all sorts of recovery suggestions including deleting the most recent update. This has never happened before and I am at a loss as to what I can do to get it back. It won't even recognize my flash drive.

Does not work on a windows pc which is what the OP probably intended

windows by default does not have HFS and HFS+ based hard drives.
Able to perform retrieval on both HFS and HFS+ based hard drives. and so will not work with windows
