Windows 10: How do I reinstall an appx package without Microsoft Store?

I need to reinstall an app that was removed from a Win11 Pro laptop on initial corporate deployment, and I can't access the Windows Store to reinstall it. The app was xboxgamingoverlay, which was removed by management because 'what do you need xbox gaming for on a work machine?', and so it was removed from all images and all users via powershell script. Likewise the Windows Store is unavailable by security rules, so I can't reinstall that way.I have permission and access to reinstall the xboxgamingoverlay app I need it for screen captures, but since the package has been completely removed

Can't reinstall Microsoft Store

You can use one of these methods to reinstall Store:



Option 1

Please try "Method 2" (downloading the Store Appx offline installer) in the following article:

After downloading the Msixbundle and Appx packages, you can double-click to install them. Install the Appx (dependency packages) first, then run the Msixbundle file. If you can't install the packages interactively, you can install them using the Add-AppxPackage PowerShell command.

Option 2

Open an Admin Command Prompt and type:

• winget install 9WZDNCRFJBMP
  

(9WZDNCRFJBMP is the SKU ID for the Microsoft Store app.)



Option 3

• Install the Xbox app by downloading the .msi from Xbox App for Windows PC.
  
• Open the Xbox App.
  
• Open Settings.
  
• Click on the General settings tab (left second tab on the list)
  
• In the upper right of the screen, there will be a list of system bundles that are missing. Click install on all of them.
  
• After installing the bundles, close the Xbox app.

Cannot find or reinstall Microsoft Store

To reinstall Store, you can use one of these methods:

(IMO, Option 2 is most reliable.)



Option 1

Open an Admin Command Prompt and type:

• winget install 9WZDNCRFJBMP
  

(9WZDNCRFJBMP is the SKU ID for the Microsoft Store app.)

See if that reinstalls the Store app.



Option 2

I cannot reinstall microsoft store

Hi,

You can instead download the Store Appx installer package from Microsoft and install it. That's a very reliable way to reinstate the Store app. Please see section "Download the Microsoft Store installer (Appx package)" in the Reinstall Microsoft Store article.
