Windows 10: How do I reinstall windows that a laptop has been "gifted" to me?

I am trying to reinstall Windows on a laptop that was "gifted" to me via a friend of a friend. I for the life of me can't even get into the UEFI portion of it. Is this a lost cause?

Using a Microsoft gift card for purchases

Thanks for your response.

I do get a method of payment option, but it does not list my Microsoft account. There is also a place for debit/credit/gift card payments, but my gift card number does not match the spaces needed.

Any other suggestions?
