How do I remove a monitors configuration that will no longer detect due to me changing the...

Hey guys I really hope you can help.

Ever since we all got plagued with this disease and my country got put on lockdown I was issued a work laptop - at first I thought that was great as I could use my lovely 144hz large monitor as a second display. I changed my refresh rate and worked at lightning speeds, but when I went to work the next day it decided it wouldn't recognise it anymore.

It still works on my desktop but due to security reasons I need to work from my company issued laptop.

How can I go about deleting the configuration files of this monitor while it's not connected?

To clarify, when I turn on the laptop with the cables being hooked up the screen does display the splash screen for my monitor getting some connectivity, but then it returns no signal.

I have tried going into multiple displays in display properties and every time I click either extend or duplicate, it will automatically go back to disconnected instantly.

In device manager it shows as generic and not my actual monitors name - not sure if that was the case before I changed the refresh rate though and unfortunately I cant go and manually download drivers due to the elevated permissions needed

    Please help!!!

  2. Windows 10 no longer DETECTs the second display.

Windows 10 no longer DETECTs the second monitor on my surface pro.

It used to detect the Dell S2440L, but I moved locations and set the second monitor up again after it being disconnected for -1- month.

It no longer detects the second monitor. Also, the driver is not listed in Device Manager/Drivers list.

Had 2 monitors this morning, now only 1 is detected.

    Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for reaching out to us. This issue may have occurred due to some changes on display settings or a display driver conflict. For us to isolate the issue, kindly answer the following questions:

    • If you press Windows key + P, can you tell us what configuration is selected? Is it Extend?
    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Meanwhile, if Windows 10 can't detect the other monitor, right-click on
    Start
, Select Run, and type desk.cpl in the Run box and press
Enter to open the Display Settings. Under Multiple displays, click on the
Detect button. This helps the computer detect the other monitor.

    Please get back to us.

    Second monitor not detected

    Hello,

May we know if you've already tried the suggestion provided by Robert Aldwinckle on forums on this

    thread
    ?

If Windows can't detect your second monitor, it's usually a driver problem. It could be due to your video driver being outdated, incorrect or faulty. It's also possible that your monitor driver is causing the problem.

Since the issue occurred after the latest update, it's possible that the video or monitor drivers require an update. Try looking for the updated version of the drivers on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If the issue persists, try to roll back the drivers to the last good configuration. To do that, you may follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Right-click your device driver, select Properties, and browse to the
      Driver tab.
    • Press the Roll Back Driver option if available, and Windows 10 will begin the process.

Let us know how it turns out.
