Windows 10: How do I restart the keyboard/mouse driver without restarting the PC?

My (USB) keyboard stops working randomly up to three times per day. It's annoying having to restart the computer to make it work again.

I have to restart the computer because the only difference that reconnecting the keyboard makes is turning it on - the keys themselves won't do anything, nor will the 'NumLock' indicator be glowing. Rarely, reconnecting makes the keyboard function normally, but I don't know why that is so in those cases.

Sometimes this happens with the mouse, too, but only when there is a spike in the local electrical grid (such as when the electric stove is used), and reconnecting the USB works, although I have to do it thrice before it does, which too, is annoying.

I assume that restarting the computer works because the drivers are initiated on boot and because graphic issues can sometimes be solved by restarting the graphics driver with a built-in hotkey.

I'm only considering getting a new keyboard as a possibility when this one becomes completely unusable. It is a generic one, so I don't imagine knowing the make and model will help.

After restarting my PC I have no mouse or keyboard

I have read through the forum and have tried the following....

Switched USB ports...did not work

Tried different keyboard and mouse...did not work.

One suggestion was to restart the PC in safe mode...That won't work because I can't log in to start with to set that up.

Another suggestion was to update the drivers. That won't work as I can not log in.

Please do not suggest a solution that requires me to access the PC after logging in.

I can not log in because the keyboard and mouse are not working that is the problem there is not device allowing me to log into the PC.

I can access the bios but after that the keyboard and mouse become inactive.

This is a critical PC that has programing on it that I need access to.

I need a solution.

I have not made any software installations for several months on this PC.

 

Microsoft 5050 Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Not Detected

Hi,
I have a new Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard 2000 now.
Tried what you suggested with an old keyboard, connected the new one and it's a bit better.
I stll get an error saying the 'MKCHelper.exe' file is missing.
I still can't uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Centre, as it says it is on the PC, but is not listed in the list of software to uninstall.
When I slow the wheel scroll speed down, it works fine, but when I restart the PC I have to do it again, as it speeds up so much I can't control it.
