How do I revert back to the original Local Account password on a User / Sign-in that is now...

I recently signed into my Microsoft Account in my computer's Settings in order to enable Find My Device. Now, whenever I want to use my PC, I am being asked to enter my Microsoft Account password instead of the Local Account password that was previously in its place. I didn't know this would happen. How do I revert back to the Local Password sign-in without removing my Microsoft Account from the Local Account? I do not want to use Windows Hello or any other alternative. I simply want to go back to using the password I set for the Local Account while keeping that Local Account tied to my Micros

  3. Windows 10 - Want to revert back to local account logon from Microsoft account but can't

    Hello Jill,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

Toe be able to assist you better, let us know the app are you referring to in this case.

Now, I suggest you to open Advanced User Accounts Control Panel to check if the Local user account exists or not. Please follow below.

    • Press the Windows key and R from the keyboard to open the Run Command Dialog Box.
    • Enter netplwiz

If not, I suspect that the Local user account you were using has been connected to the Microsoft Account you own.

To convert the account back to Local User account, I suggest you to follow the below steps:

    • Sign in to your Microsoft account.

    • Click Start and then PC settings.

    • Click Users and accounts and under your Profile select “Sign in with a local account instead ” option.

    • Enter the required details.

    • Type in a Username, Password, and Password Hint that you want set for your Local account and click
Next. Click on Sign out and Finish button.

    • It will then prepare your local account and your Microsoft account will be disconnected.

    Let us know the results.

How do I revert back to the original Local Account password on a User / Sign-in that is now...

Signing into Onenote app converts local account to microsoft account

    Steps:

    • Sign into a local account
    • Open the OneNote app (tablet not desktop app)
    • Sign in to this app with a Microsoft account
The local account is then converted into a Microsoft account with that identity.

This is wrong and unexpected behaviour as no indication is given that the sign in is for the whole of windows rather than just OneNote.

It is also hard to revert.

I am guessing that other apps may exhibit the same behaviour.

In fact I don't understand how an app (which is supposed to be sandboxed and secure) can change user account information.
