Windows 10: How do I safely transfer files from old pc to new pc?

I just purchased a new computer because my old one has been getting BSOD and I got tired of trying to fix it to no avail. How can I transfer files to my new pc without possibly bringing anything over that may have been causing the BSOD in the old one?I thought about backing up my old pc to an external hard drive; however, that would mean that if I need those particular files, I'll have to work off the external hard drive because I don't know which files might be corrupt and don't want to bring that to the new one.I keep seeing FTP and SFTP. I have no clue what these are or even how to access

W7 To W10 transfering data and files from old PC to New PC

I have an old PC running W7 and want to transfer files and data, music to a new PC running W10. Easy transfer cable is not so easy with W10. Is there a program or something to accomplish this task? THX
