  2. Error code 0xc00d7187 while playing wma file with Groove Music

For further assistance, we need to clarify somethings.

    • Do you have a subscription on Groove Music?
    • Have you tried adding music to OneDrive for it to play on the computer?
Make sure that your music files are one of the supported file types to be unprotected:

    • MP3
    • M4A
    • WMA

WMA files downloaded through a Groove Music Pass are typically protected due to it's copyrights. Since you mentioned that the WMA files are protected music ripped from the CD, that could be the main reason why you're encountering this issue.

Groove not playing .wma music files

Truth321, I hope you didn't read this thread to imply Microsoft is dropping support for WMA files. I only had problems streaming WMA lossless files, which is a problem I think MS fixed months ago. I never had problems playing music saved directly to
my computer. Also, I haven't read anything regarding the company dropping support for WMA, and I'm a Windows enthusiast and read tech news almost daily.

The format you use for your music depends on how you listen to your music. Ultimately, it's a case-by-case decision. For me, I rip my CDs using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to WMA lossless and either listen on my PC or stream via the Groove app on my Android
phone. (Thanks again MS for fixing that!)

Regarding your iTunes problem of songs not importing, the WMA files may have been "protected" when originally ripped. Just making an educated guess, but I believe that will prevent iTunes from reading the files. (Or files may be corrupted...hard to
diagnose without looking at the actual files and what's being done with them.) If you can't diagnose using file properties and the settings of whatever you used to rip the CDs, I would suggest re-ripping one CD to WMA lossless and importing again into iTunes
to see if it happens again. Assuming you are using Windows Media Player to rip, be sure to check the settings to make sure you are not protecting the files.

My personal opinion...unless you plan to drop Windows altogether, I would rip to WMA lossless format. That format should be supported for the foreseeable future and, if not, lossless files can be transcoded to another lossless format, such as FLAC
for Linux or ALAC for Apple, without any loss in quality. You definitely should not change your operating system just because you think WMA support may be dropped! I truly doubt that will ever happen unless something revolutionary is coming over the horizon,
which is highly unlikely given the current lack of innovation in the music industry.

  4. How do I save a music file to a cd without using wma?

Unable to rip music to mp3 (but WMA works fine!)

    Hello,

Windows 10 media player is refusing to rip a CD to MP3. I've tried all the stock suggestions on multiple similar posts:

    • Error correction is turned on for the CD/DVD drive in Media Player.
    • There's a valid folder for it to rip to (have tried 2 separate drives, includng CHow do I save a music file to a cd without using wma? :).
    • Have tried increasing quality to maximum for MP3.
None of this has any effect; I still get the error message:

Windows Media Player cannot rip one or more tracks from the CD.

If I turn the file format to WMA, then I can rip fine (but I don't want it in WMA format).

Suggestions? I've seen posts on non-microsoft forums that suggest an MP3 codec might be the issue but that seems... odd when it plays mp3s just fine. Not sure where I would get a legitimate one either?

    Thanks in advance!
