Windows 10: How do I see my product key?

Didn't work for me. When I tried to activate W10 after a clean ISO install (on the same hardware) it wouldn't take the W7 key. I had to contact Microsoft and they gave me a new key.

It took about 20 minutes for their promised email to arrive, and then the helpdesk lady -- hanging on the whole time -- told me to ignore it and she gave me the new key over the phone. Worked fine. I'm not complaining -- the helpdesk is very helpful and responsive. Probably the first good thing I've ever had to say about Microsoft.

 

If you got the version that matched the Windows 7 version you had, the key should have worked.

No matter now though, glad you have it working.

 

The versions matched -- both Professional. Neither the responder nor her supervisor could explain why it happened, but the bottom line is that they fixed it. At one stage she asked if she could take control of my machine, which stunned me a bit, but there was no argument when I refused.

 

Can I retrieve a windows 10 pro key from within a windows 7 OS? My win 10 decided to be corrupted, but the win 7 dual boot is still working.

You can run showkey plus:
Showkey - Windows 10 Forums

Select the option to retrieve product key from backup. Navigate to the Windows 10 partition, Windows\System32\config folder. Load the SOFTWARE hive. Showkey will provide you with the generic product key above that all Windows 10 upgrades get from Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro.
