Windows 10: How do I set my second SSD as my primary boot drive?

My OS SSD is failing SMART failure according to startup error. Thus I have installed a second SSD on my Asus F15 laptop. I used AOMEI Backupper to clone my OS SSD to the new SSD, and was successful in cloning and unlocking the new SSD. However, the cloned SSD will not show up in the BIOS boot menu when I attempt to set it as the new boot drive; my only option are the original OS SSD and the USB backup I used for AOMEI clone. How do I set the new SSD as my primary drive so that I can remove the corrupted OS SSD?

Z Book BSOD with Second SSD Drive

Hi all

I have an issue with an HP Z Book. It is a new Generation 6 device and came with a pre-installed second SSD drive.

All worked fine until I tried to put our corporate image onto the primary OS SSD.

Firstly, the new OS installed onto the secondary SSD rather than the primary.

So I disconnected/removed the secondary, recreated the partition on the primary and loaded our stock OS.

The machine now works absolutely fine, as long as I do not try to re-introduce the second SSD drive.

If I reinstall this, the machine boots up OK for a second or two and then BSOD's.

Can anyone suggest the reason for this issue - the BSOD message reported a kernel error.

Any ideas on steps to take to resolve this?

An alternative to consider is to disconnect the boot SSD and boot with just the second SSD (as if you were going to install on the second SSD)

Go through the process described previously and look at the Custom install screen to see if there are any partitions still visible. Delete any found on the SSD, as this is the second drive. Cancel the screen and reconnect the primary SSD and try boot again.

 

How do I set my new SSD as the only Boot/System drive?

The SSD was in the system when I did the upgrade. The SSD contains Windows 10 and my programs now.

Yes, when I boot I am presented with Boot from Windows 7 or Windows 10. However, I deleted the option to boot from Windows 7 in msconfig > Boot, but did not make all boot settings permanent.

I upgraded from a DVD connected via USB.

Also, in Computer Management > Disk Management, the Win7 drive is listed as:

Disc 0 and "System, Active, Primary Partition".

The Win10 drive is listed as:

Disk 1 and "Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition".

I need to get rid of this old drive, boot only from the SSD, and NOT have to reinstall everything.
