How do I set my touch screen keyboard layout by default via registry on windows 10?

I know that the user can manually change the layout once you open the touch screen, but I am looking to enable it by default. For some reason, I cannot upload a screenshot to show what I mean. By default, if you open up the touch screen keyboard on a new user, it will default to a keyboard layout with no numbers on top row, no esc, no fn, no tab, etc. There is a layout with all of these keys enabled and this is the desired default layout I want to enable.Preferably, we want to do this on the "new keyboard experience" and not the "old experience". If anyone knows the registry parameters for this

    :)

  2. How to set the default keyboard layout?

    Hi Mohammed-Ghaleb

I understand that you are experiencing difficulty setting the default keyboard layout in Windows 11, and I'm here to help you resolve this issue.

To change your keyboard layout in Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    > Go to Settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the gear icon.

    > Click on Time & Language, followed by Language & Region.

    > From there, you can add or remove keyboard layouts by clicking on the + and - signs.

If you want to set a default keyboard layout, you can follow these additional steps:

    > Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

    > Type "regedit" and hit Enter.

    > Navigate to the registry key HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload.

    > You’ll see your keyboard layouts listed there. Right-click the item named 1, select Rename and change it to 3. Then rename 2 to 1 and 3 to 2 to swap the order.

    > Finally, reboot your laptop for your changes to take effect.

I hope this solution works for you, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'm always here to help.

    Best regards,

  3. How to set the default keyboard layout?

    Hi Mohammed,

Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know that my previous suggestion did not work for you.

It's possible that the keyboard layout is changing automatically due to an incompatible third-party app, a corrupted user profile, or even the default keyboard shortcut to switch layouts enabled. However, there is another solution that you can try to address this issue.

You can delete the Preload key in the registry by following these steps:

    > Press the Windows key and type "Registry Editor" in the search bar. Click on "Registry Editor" to open it.

    > Paste the following address into the address bar at the top of the window and press Enter: HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload.

    > In the left pane, right-click on the Preload key (folder) and select "Delete".

    > Finally, reboot your laptop for the changes to take effect.

I hope this solution works for you and helps you to set the default keyboard layout as you desire.

    Best regards,

    John D.

  4. How do I set my touch screen keyboard layout by default via registry on windows 10?

Windows 10 touch keyboard does not switch keyboard layouts.

When I am in tablet mode, the touch keyboard on screen will not switch keyboard layouts. I have the option in the corner to change layouts, and I can tap the option and change the letters displaying on the on-screen keyboard, but when I type, the letters
showing up are based on the default keyboard layout.

I'm using Windows 10 on a new Surface Pro 6, and I normally type using the Dvorak keyboard layout. I would like the default keyboard layout for the touch keyboard to be qwerty while the laptop mode default is Dvorak, but I'd just be happy if the keys I touched
showed up based on the layout selected.

I've done a good about of searching before deciding to post on here. This bug is making tablet mode hard to use, so I appreciate any help. All of my software is up to date, and this has been an issue since day 1.
