Windows 10: How do I set up a new laptop and bypass Hello Pin?

Just bought a laptop for my daughter for her birthday. Trying to set it up before giving it to her. However, it says " You're account requires a Windows Hello Pin a Windows Hello Pin make signing in faster and more secure. Unlike a password, it only works on this device, so it stays off the Web." It is not giving me the option to set up later, skip, go back. The only buttons are "create pin," "ease of access," and "disable voice control". I have tried saying skip, next, go back, etc, to no avail.


I do not want to set a pin since:

A. I will not be the primary user.

B. The device is for a child who may not be able to remember a pin and a password.

C. There is no guarantee it will let me delete it later.

D. Even if it lets me choose not to use it after set up, there is no guarantee a future update won't suddenly require it if one has been set up in the past.

E. I find it wholly ridiculous that we should be required to set up both a pin and a password upon the initial boot up. Security options on someone's personal device should be a personal choice, not a forced one, EVER.


I will NOT be setting up a pin. If the only answer is to set it up and delete/disable it later, I will instead abandon the start up, and will return the computer in favor of one that uses a different OS.


So, how do I bypass entering a pin?

Login with PIN and Hello

• How are you setting the PIN and Hello?
• Which build version of Windows is your PC running on?
• Were there any error codes or messages?

In the meantime, we suggest that you follow the steps below on how to set up PIN.

• Open Settings.
• Select Accounts.
• Click Sign-in options.
• Click the Add button for the PIN and set your PIN.
• Do the same for the Windows Hello.

Unable to setup Windows Hello, error: incorrect pin

May I know the complete error code or error message that you are receiving when you try to setup Windows Hello?

Do you have any other user account on the computer?

If yes, does Windows Hello work on that account?

If Windows Hello is not setup on other account, please setup it up and check if it works so that we can narrow down the issue for you.

I suggest to remove the pin and setup a new pin on the child account and check if it works with Windows Hello.

Please follow the steps below to remove and re-add the PIN:

• Press Windows logo key + I to open Settings.
  
• Select Accounts.
  
• Click on Sign-in options.
  
• Under PIN, remove the pin. There will be prompt to enter password, enter the password and removed the PIN.
  
• After the pin is removed, please click on
  Add to setup pin for the account.
  
• After setting up a new PIN, try to set up Windows Hello.

Bypass PIN at Log In

I did a second install of Win 10, dual boot with my old Win 10 install that will eventually just be for recording. The new install will become my "operational" Win 10.

On my old install it is logged in with my Microsoft account and I have it bypassed via netplwiz. On the new install it forced me to set a PIN for log in. I can't find info on how to bypass the PIN like was done with netplwiz for the Microsoft account. Is there a procedure to bypass the PIN?
