Windows 10: How do I setup a system where my family members can view and edit only the hard drive...

Layperson from Bangladesh here.

I have just one computer at home, and my family members needs to use it during the morning. I only use it for a couple of hours at night.

Now, I have personal data on my laptop and I obviously would not like my family members to access it. So I was wondering, what if I create a separate partition for them and set up a system such that they can only view and edit that partition and no other HDD partitions except for their own C drive folders. Or a setup where they can access the C drive fully and the partition created for them but no others.

Can someone tell me how I can setup the above system without bricking my (or locking myself out which I have read is very common if you make a mistake in setting user policies) device?

Unable to add another family member on the system

• Do you receive any error message or code?
• Are you logged in with administrator account?

broken "family member needs to sign in"

Parental controls stopped working. Family.Microsoft.com has alert: "Your family member needs to sign in to their Windows 10 device AngLaptop2014 for family features to work.

But the "how to fix this" says

• Select Accounts > Family & other people
• Under Your family, select your family member, then select Allow
• Have your family member sign in with their Microsoft account if asked to

And the steps don't apply. The account is already allowed, and there is no option to change that.

Now what???

 

Wrong "adult" email address used in family setup

Hi,

Try the steps below.

• Sign into http://familysafety.microsoft.com with that Microsoft account.
  
• Click the Manage my family link at the bottom of the summary page.
• Select the affected user under Family Members and click
  Remove family member at the top left of the screen.
• At this point you should be able to add that family member to the correct (new) family.

If the issue persist, I suggest you to create a new email address for your son and add to the family account and check.
