Windows 10: How do I sharpen an image in MS Paint for Windows 11?

I've been told that the function was available via an "effects" tab in previous versions, but I can't find said tab in the new one. Surely no functionality has been REMOVED, right?

Sharpen An Image ?

First of all do any conversions you need but forget PNG or JPG as these are designed to create and image for use on the web where the resolution of screen and thus the picture is quite low (72DPI for Apple and 96DPI for Windows ), I would suggest that you only make one conversion step to Uncompressed TIFF format or at least keep conversions to an absolute minimum as each conversion degrades the image .

I sharpen images by use of a combination of the Sharpening and Noise Reduction tools

Always work on a 100% view of the image as any other will not show the real state of the pixels

With adobe tools the both mentioned have a range of 0 - 100, (I assume %), what I have found is the best image result is achieved by making the total of the two tools equal 100, ie use the sharpen tool and set to eg 55, then use the Noise reduction and set this to 45 - play about with these values to give the best image you can - Both of the tools have other controls which control the area of influence of the tool and these can be adjusted to suit.

Always remember to regularly switch image size to your required output size to show the actual progress.

Free graphics packages such as GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program may also have reasonable tools for this task, and there is also, the now free, (thanks Google), Google Nik Collection but this needs a container application to use their Sharpener Pro, (time to check out the 30 Day Free trial of Lightroom or Photoshop Maybe ? *Wink )

 

MS Paint and Paint 3D.

Still using WIN 10 (my PC won't run 11). I still make use of both MS Paint and Paint 3D. Since the recent Windows update KB5039211 the button in Paint "edit with Paint 3D" no longer works. Instead I get a message "You'll need a new app to open this ms-paint link. Look for an app in the Microsoft Store". Clicking "OK" takes me to the MS Store indicating Paint 3D is installed. I can then open it and select the Paint image I want. Which means 8 mouse clicks instead of one. The other annoyance is that, right clicking on an image and selecting "open with" brings up a list of all my image editing apps. Except Paint 3D. I did think about uninstalling the update but I am wary of doing that as it includes a security update. So another solution please.

 

MS Paint: Win 11 - Unable to work with overlay images

When I import an image on an already open MS Paint project (let's say another image), MS Paint does not allow me to manipulate the overlay image - like resize or invert color, etc. Neither I see the edge or corner markers on the imported image, which I can use to drag the size of the image.

And even when I try to perform the actions like resize or invert color, MS Paint simply perform the action on the canvas not on the overlay image alone.

Also, is there a way i can use the old UI of MS Paint in Win 11?
