Windows 10: How do I stop OneDrive from syncing 'The Sims 3' folder in my Documents?

I am trying to play The Sims 3 on my computer, but I use OneDrive. I sync all my files to OneDrive for the work that I do and to keep my files safe, so deleting OneDrive/turning off document syncing is not an option. When loading The Sims 3, the game crashes and provides an error message because the files in the C:\Users\NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder are syncing to OneDrive.I wanted to ask if there is any way to either:- Stop OneDrive from syncing that one 'The Sims 3' folder directly within my OneDrive documents folder- Move where The Sims 3 reads and makes the f

How to stop syncing folder under ~/Documents with OneDrive?

I have a folder named ~/Documents/Rockstar Games that I do not want to sync to OneDrive. But when I try to disable syncing of this folder in OneDrive settings, I get a message saying that Documents is being synced and I cannot stop syncing the /Rockstar Games folder. Is there any way to stop syncing ~/Documents/Rockstar Games?

You can’t unsync folder from within Document folder of document folder is set to sync. In your case you need to stop syncing the document folder.

Right click on the OneDrive icon on lower right on taskbar. Go to settings. In the sync and backup tab, click on “manage backup”. Next make sure you cancel sync for Document folder.

Restart the computer and the entire Document folder will return to local path without being nested under OneDrive folder. If you are missing any files you can go to www.OneDrive.com, sign in and download from there.

Unfortunately there's no way to select folders within Documents folder to sync or unsync.

Are you actually in OneDrive Settings > Accounts tab > Choose folders? The list of folders you see here is not for choose what to sync FROM your computer to the cloud. Rather, it is the opposition. It is to choose what's already in the cloud to sync TO your local computer. Since this documents > sub folder is already on your computer, you cannot uncheck in this settings.

Your alternative is to unsync the entire Documents folder. Which can be done via Settings > Sync & Backup tab > Manage Backup. Turn off the Documents folder. However, future files you save to Documents folder won't save to OneDrive. You have to manually save those files to the OneDrive folder instead of Documents folder.
