Ok, so i have an old laptop that's hhd was infected with a virus that screwed windows up. I have some data on the thing that i need to pull off and put onto my new laptops hhd. So what is the safest and easiest way to get the data from old laptop to new laptop?

For your data files you can just use copy and paste from the source to a external drive then copy and paste to the new laptop. If you have enough drive space on a external drive you could make images of both of your laptops. Then do a restore of your old laptop over the new laptop with the free version Macrium Reflect. A transfer of Windows 10 from a old device to a new device has a large success rate. Both versions has to be the same. For example both the Home version or both the Pro version. If for some reason it doesn't work you can restore the original image back to the laptop.

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

You should not drag the content of the C and D drives into your new laptop, that would contain all sorts of things, like Windows, Installed software and all your personal files into the new laptop and that would cause many conflicts.

The only thing you can copy across form the old laptop is your personal files, copy all those onto a USB drive, then transfer them into your new laptop, do not copy the user folders like Documents, Videos, Pictures... etc. just copy the contents of those folders into the new folders on the new laptop.

Any software that you need from the old laptop will need to be downloaded and clean installed onto the new laptop.
