Windows 10: How do I turn off Defrag on SSD Windows 11 Home

SSD keeps trying to defrag. I have Windows 11 Home. When I go to Optimize Drives and highlight SSD, there is no option to make changes. How do I turn off Defrag? Driving me crazy!!!

Defragmenting SSD

Hello everyone! Should I use the Windows 10 built-in Disk Defragmentation to defragment my SSD? Some internet sources suggest that SSDs should never be defragmented.

Like i said, Windows 8 knows its an SSD so when you go into yhe windows defrag utility, instead of defragging when you click oprimize itll do trimming instead. So you dont need to turn anything on or off.

Windows8 defrag tool does TRIM to SSDs, so no modifications to Windows Disk Defrag are needed any more, when it comes to SSDs. With many users deciding to NOT use newer Windows, I totally understand why there is some confusion here. Windows8 defrag WILL NOT defrag an SSD, unless there is some controller between the drive and the OS, like a USB enclosure or dock, that changes how Windows recognizes the drive.


So, with SSDs on Windows, you need to now check and verify that your SSD's are recognized as such, and if they are, change nothing. If you have a drive that is not recognized properly as an SSD, regular garbage collection commands by the drive's firmware can replace TRIM, although in-effectively for drives that see high usage, and you should turn off automatic defrag scheduling.
