Windows 10: How do I unlink OneDrive and move files to PC WITHOUT losing cloud stored items

My OneDrive is full everything is OneDrive, my desktop, etc. I must have unknowingly set it up this way. I want to move all contents to my PC and unlink OneDrive. When I read the many forums, I'm finding old information or different information than how things appear on my computer. My big worry is losing all the cloud files. So I started to unlink OneDrive; however, when I am about to click "Unlink" it says my files will be REMOVED. The tutorials I've seen say, at the same point of unlinking, that a copy of the files will be left on the PC. I don't want to lose anything. Please advise. I know how to move files but this is confounding me. Thanks.

OneDrive says 235 GB in cloud but no files stored

Check your OneDrive Settings Tab, if Let me use OneDrive to fetch any of my files on this PC is checked (I think it defaults to this) is probably why you're seeing all of your C: drive folders.

My mapped OneDrive just reflects my C: drive usage.

Upon analyzing this matter, it seems that
OneDrive is having issues in syncing your
Microsoft Account that causes the issue to occur. We suggest you to try these following methods and check if there's any changes:

Method 1: add/remove your account in OneDrive.

To do unlink your account, follow these steps:

• 
  Right-click on the
  cloud icon
  on the lower right of your screen.
  
• 
  Choose
  Settings.
  
• 
  On the
  Account tab, click on
  Unlink this PC.
  
• 
  Choose
  Unlink Account.
  

To add your account, just run OneDrive again the enter your credentials.

Method 2: reset OneDrive.

To reset OneDrive, follow these steps:

• 
  Press
  Windows key + R.
  
• 
  Type
  %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
  
• 
  Click
  OK.
  
• 
  Make sure that the
  cloud iconor the
  OneDrive icon
  on the bottom right
  disappears.
  
• 
  If the icon doesn't
  re-appear after a few minutes, press
  Windows key + R
  and type
  %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

Unlinking OneDrive deleted or made all my files dissapear--HELP!

As per instructions for unlinking Onedrive - I went to the little blue cloud icon and went to settings/account and clicked the unlink option. The blue cloud and the drive disappeared from my file explorer as expected but all of my files also disappeared
somewhere? I specifically set Onedrive up to keep a local copy on my PC and this was syncing just fine prior to this.

I should be able to unlink from Onedrive and still have my local files /folders intact??

What is going on here?...help!!!
