  1. How do you bypass target disk space calc when doing repeated copies like to a backup drive

I have two 4Tb drives which backup my music.currently they are filled to approx 3Tb, with 1 Tb free. The first time i copied the files everything was great. The second time win10 will not let me do the copy as it thinks there is not enough storage on the target drive.90% of the files are identical and will be replaced, and win10 will ask me mid copy if i want to replace target drive files. So why doesn't it ask at the beginning? There should be an option on copy that says 'do not do space calculation' and after that 'replace or not replace target drive files with source'.This is so utterly infuri

    :)

Backup drive is running out of space

    Hi,

In Windows 10, you can either use File History in Settings or Backup and Restore (Windows 7) in Control Panel to back up your files or the image of your Windows 10. Just to clarify, what tool did you use to back up your files or image? If you used Back and
Restore (Windows 7) and you set up a back up schedule, the drive that you're using for the back up will surely consume a large amount of space. To free up disk space, you can either delete an old back up or you can set up Backup and Restore (Windows 7) to
only save the latest backup file. To do this, follow these steps:

    Delete an old backup file:

    • Open Control Panel and access Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
    • Click Manage space.
    • Select View backups....
    • Choose the backup the you want to delete, and then press Delete.
    Keep the latest system image:

    • Open Control Panel and access Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
    • Click Manage space.
    • Select Change settings....
    • Choose Keep only the latest system image and minimize space used by backup, and then press
      OK.
If you do not want to use the current location of your backup anymore and you want to change it to your external drive, you can do so by following these steps:

    • Open Backup and Restore (Windows 7) in Control Panel.
    • Press Change settings.

    • Choose the drive you want to save your backup file, and then click Next.
    • Choose your backup settings.
    • Press Save settings and run backup.

If you want to create a bootable media or an installation media of Windows 10, you can do so by using the Media Creation Tool. Please take note that you need a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of space so that you can create a bootable media. You can download
the Media Creation Tool here. The link also has the steps on how to create and use the bootable media.

If you have additional questions, kindly reply to this thread.

How do you bypass target disk space calc when doing repeated copies like to a backup drive

Low disk space message for Backup disk.

Yes, sure. If that's your only available backup drive, then, yes, you'll want to delete the Windows images and turn that off.

When you first install/open Macrium, it will ask you if you want to make the rescue media. DO THAT! It's a very important step! How do you bypass target disk space calc when doing repeated copies like to a backup drive :) Once it's created. make sure you can boot your system from it. To create the media at another time, select Other Tasks>Create Rescue Media.

Select the disk or partitions you want to image. In your case, you'd want to select the entire disk, all partitions.
    Then select Image this disk.

    Verify your selected disk/partitions.
Assign a folder on a separate drive for the backups.

Then click on Advanced Options.Compression = Medium (Recommended)
Copy method = Intelligent Sector Copy
    File Size = Automatic
    Password (optional)
Auto Verify Image: Yes, so check the box
Comments = information so you can identify what this archive is (i.e. W10 [computername] Full HDD Disk 0)
    Shutdown (optional)Then click Next.

Here you can add a schedule. Perhaps you'd like this backup to be repeated weekly. Click Add Schedule to create your required schedule.
By default, Macrium will keep 12 full backups (and 4 differential backups, but you're not doing incrementals). Change that amount to whatever you like. I would keep at minimum 3, for redundancy. It's possible a backup could become corrupted, so you need more than one.
    Click Next.
The Image Summary screen appears. Here you can verify everything you've set up, and make any changes if necessary.
    Click Finish.

Check the box to Run this backup now.
If you want to save this configuration to run in the future, click Save backup and schedules as XML Backup Definition File...
Enter a descriptive name for the Backup Definition file.
Click OK and the backup will begin.

You can use your computer while the backup is running.

If you scheduled backups, and your computer is not on when one is supposed to be run, it will run at next boot.
Be sure to check logs occasionally, for any problems.

That's it. It's quite easy, and very reliable.
