Windows 10: How Do You Check Nvidia GPU Temps?

I've just purchased my first ever Nvidia GTX GPU. I've always purchased AMD Radeon cards but due to the shortage of RX480/580s I opted for Nvidia.

As a result, I am totally unfamiliar with the control panel and G-force Experience so am finding my way around.

Anyway, first thing I want to do is, how do you monitor the temperature? I've looked in that Control Panel and I don't see options for fan speeds and current GPU temps. I've installed the card but I have no idea what the current idling temp is.

Can someone advise an Nvidia noob please. I did do some Googling but believe it or not, I didn't find anything.

Nvidia Graphics Card

Hello,

I recently acquired a new computer with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 GPU. However, when I tried to allocate the Nvidia card as my main GPU by trying to open the Nvidia control panel, it wouldn't open. Can someone tell me how to open the nvidia control panel
because when I opened it it said, "You are not currently using a display attatched to a Nvidia GPU even though the PC came with the Nvidia card preinstalled.

Hello. Without knowing the brand of your video card, I suggest MSI Afterburner. Afterburner | MSI Global
You can read up on this little program as well as download it there. It will do much more than monitor GPU temps, display the info in your system tray as well as on screen in games. If you decide to give it a try, post back with any info you need or problems. There are more than a few folks here that use afterburner, myself included.

 

HWiNFO - Hardware Information, Analysis and Monitoring Tools has also enough data for GPU too.

 

For real time GPU info try GPU Temp (freeware and works great in Windows 10)

and gives a constant temp display in your Taskbar >

 

Another program you can use is GPU-Z: Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z | TechPowerUp

 

Thanks guys for your help. So far I have gone for the GPUZ. However, I think Afterburner is probably the way to go in order to manipulate fan speeds to my various game profiles.

Do you know what?,..I really am very surprised that temp monitoring is not available with Nvidia Drivers and Control panel. Seriously,..my AMD Crimson Driver software on my other PC has temp monitoring and fan speed control built in. No need for Afterburner or anything else. Most people say that Nvidia is the 'Gamers Choice' of GPUs but heck,..they don't even provide temp monitoring so yea,..really surprised about this.

 

Afterburner is a great choice, now that Unwinder(the developer has really improved it.
He has made the OSD for it configurable, and you can use other monitoring software(like Aida64, or even Windows own) plugins.

Thanks,..I have the same card as you, a 1080TI. I take it there's no conflict when opening Afterburner with an Nvidia GPU? I know it's not advisable to use Afterburner with AMD Crimson because it can cause conflicts with Crimson. I've never needed to use Afterburner because like I said above, Crimson already comes with its own built-in fan speed control and tem monitoring.

 

I've been using Afterburner with Nvidia GPUs for the last 3 years and have never run into any conflicts or issues. Currently using it with my SLI 1080 Ti setup, so you should be fine running it with your 1080 Ti.

Also, I agree that it's kind of odd that Nvidia Control Panel doesn't include any kind of monitoring tools, especially when Crimson does, but I guess Nvidia is fine with letting Afterburner or Precision X OC do that job for them.

Thanks Jack. That actually looks quite good. Apart from monitoring, I needed something that allows me to manipulate fan speeds too so Afterburner seems top dog for that at the moment.
