Windows 10: How do you default NumLock on at startup?

I've tried everything I've read and nothing works. I've modified the registry to 2 from 2147483684. I've turned NumLock on in the BIOS. I don't understand why this isn't something that is automatically set in the Operating system anymore. This is not a setting that we should be fighting with in 2024.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Jessica

Hi guys,

Trick was not really helpful.

After a logon, the NumLock key is now effectively on, but I need this before the logon.

My logon password has digits, and I would need the Numlock key to be «ON» at the logon process.

Is there another way to solve that ??

Numlock Defaults

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

• Click on Windows key +R to go to Run Command.
• 
  Type in "regedit." Hit "OK" to open the regedit application. This allows you to change your computer's default settings.
  
• 
  Navigate to the keyboard's default settings. Using the navigation bar at the left, choose "HKey_Users" then "Default" then "Control Panel" and finally "Keyboard."
  
• 
  Look at the right side of the window. On the right are the various default options you can change for your keyboard. Double click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" to change the NumLock default. A window will pop up.
  
• 
  Change the NumLock default by entering a 0 or 2 in the "Value Data" field. Enter a 0 to have the NumLock set to off by default. To set the NumLock to on by default, enter 2. Hit the "OK" button to save your changes.
  
• 
  Restart you computer. Your NumLock default changes will not take effect until your computer has been restarted.

Windows10 - numlock not on at startup

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Please follow the steps below and check if it works fine:

Disable Fast Startup, to enable Num Lock. Follow the steps:

• Press Win + X and click on Control Panel
• Click on Power Plan
• Now click on Choose what the power buttons do on the left side panel
• Now select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
• Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) .

That’s it. Now after shutting down and reboot your NumLock should retain the last configuration.
