  1. How do you enter the names of people on photo files in Windows 11?

I have been working with Windows 11 for 10 months. In Windows 7 I loved and used the Photo Gallery function that allowed me to easily enter the names of the people in each jpg photo. Eventually the AI I guess AI grew to suggest the names of people in new photos. I don't see anything like that in Windows 11. Now, I go to Properties in each photo now, then Details, then Tag and then type the name. It seems more labor intensive. Is there an easier way to add peoples' names to photos?

    :)

  2. WIN 11 Photos App PEOPLE

I've been using the PHOTOS App, specifically the PEOPLE segment to identify family member groups of digital photos, and just in case others have struggled with the following topic, I thought I would post my most recent observations:

    • To date, I have not discovered a way of "manually" specifying a "Person" (as a tag) to a photo
      • The only current solution is to select one or many photos, which do not include the identified person in a "group" or "collection", and to then select the "Remove tag" command with a right button click
      • Then the facial recognition routines will see if it can find another candidate (you don't know who) until you begin reconciling again
      • Most likely you will repeat the above process until it finally "gets it"
      • IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL IF, WHEN SELECTING A PHOTO(S) IN A PEOPLE COLLECTION, YOU COULD THEN SPECIFY THE CORRECT PEOPLE(S) TAG(S) THAT IT SHOULD HAVE ASSOCIATED WITH IT (OR THEM)
    • I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get the PEOPLE collections to display or sort in an appropriate chronological order
      • The key issue was that photos that were copies in my photos archive had file "create" dates that represented the date the file was copied there
      • The other key issue was that old photos that had been scanned, had the date that they were scanned
      • I erroneously spent a great deal of time trying to get the "create date" modified for the above files (don't bother with this assumption)
      • I LEARNED THAT THE ORDER OF THE PHOTO PEOPLE COLLECTIONS IS BASED 1ST ON THE "Date Taken" FIELD, FOUND IN THE "DETAILS" PAGE OF THE FILE PROPERTIES PANEL, THEN 2ND ON THE FILE "CREATED" DATE
        • Multiple and All photos in a folder can be modified with an updated "Date Take" date by selecting them and then selecting the Properties command. Then go to Details and select the (most likely empty) "Date taken" field. From there you can enter any date you'd like
        • Have also observed that while viewing a PEOPLE Collection, you can select a (or many) photo(s) and by using the menu initiated by the RMB, select the "Change Date" to modify the meta data contained in the "Date taken" field of its properties
        • After making these changes, the photo order in the PEOPLE Collection will reflect the changes that you have made, and the "fuel gauge" control on the right side of the panel will allow you to go to the year/decade you are seeking
    • Side topics that are interesting, that were observed in this research, WIN 11 will not allow for setting the system date any further back than 1980, whereas WIN 10, does allow for this, at least back to 1960
    • Additionally, my observations are that the ability to copy or move files from networked computers, where one is WIN 11 and one is WIN 10, without having the destination files updated with a current "Create" date, is practically impossible

Give name and merge people in Windows 10 Photos (Falls Creator update)

I have exactly the same problem.

Just in case someone from Microsoft refers this to someone who wants to help and
can help, here is a summary of the issue:

In Windows Photos (latest version at time of this message).

In the app, within "people", there is no (obvious) way to apply a name to each individual person.

    The problems then get worse....

The seems to be no way to:

    • tag people's face (by drawing a selection box around a face in an image)
    • get "Photos" to detect all the faces in the folder - presently it has only found 5 peopl ein
    • get "Photos" to suggest names for people that have been detected but not yet named

These features were available in windows live photo gallery.

It also appears that "Photos" does not read the image file meta data, so that all of the hours I spent tagging people in "Windows live photo gallery" seems to have been wasted. This is massively disappointing given I have thousands and thousands of photos.

This is a whole issue is a massive disappointment given that almost every google search for facial recognition software includes "Windows Live Photo Gallery" in the top 10 off applications..... AND finding out that "Photos" is the replacement for Windows
Live Photo Gallery is ALMOST impossible from any of the Microsoft online resources....

I would have preferred Microsoft simple step out of the arena, inform users in a clear and upfront way, than waste everyone's time and creating
avoidable frustration. In particular in the statement at the top of the following thread:

    Windows Essentials - Microsoft Support

How do you enter the names of people on photo files in Windows 11?

Missing apps: Store, People, Photos, Games & Camera on upgrading to 10

Thanks for replying spunk. That's the 'alphabetical' list I was referring to, none of these apps are in that 'All apps' list. Any more suggestions?
