  2. Childs PC and Parental PIN

    Hi Darren Harrison,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To make sure, I suggest you refer to the steps below to check if a PIN has been added to the parental control settings:

    1. Open "Control Panel": You can type "Control Panel" in the Windows search bar and select the corresponding result to open the Control Panel.
    2. Access the Parental Controls settings: In the Control Panel, locate and click on "User Accounts and Family Safety."
    3. Choose the Parental Controls settings: On the Parental Controls page, find the account of the child you want to make changes to and click on it.
    4. Modify the Parental Controls settings: In the Parental Controls settings page, you should be able to find the option to "Change Parental Control Settings" or a similar option. Click on it, and you may need to enter the administrator password for verification.

You are right about one thing. If your child's PC has not been logged into your account, there is indeed no option to change the PIN in the system's account settings.

I want to check with you if you have used the Microsoft Family app on your phone?

There are also settings for child accounts on the app, maybe you can find the settings on the app.

Finally, there is another possibility, please check whether your Microsoft account (parent account) has set a PIN or turned on two-factor authentication, and if so, please temporarily close them.

Turning two-step verification on or off for your Microsoft account

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thank you.

    Best regards

add parent to exisitng child account

If you are talking about my family then you don't add the parent to the child account you add the child to the parent account. First go to windowsphone.com and sign in using the parent account, then in the top right corner click my family, there should
then be steps on how to activate my family and how to add the children.

Setting Up A Child Account - Guide For Parents

    Summary

The windowsphone OS is linked to Xbox. Xbox has some strict parental controls in place, and that applies to windowsphone as well. Thanks to this, parents who buy windowsphone to their children will be unable to set up the phones. This short article explains
what needs to be done to get things done.

    Details

This short guide is meant for parents who are setting up a windowsphone for their under age - less than 18 years - kids. This article is more of a succinct summary. You will find in depth information at the following link - My
    Family FAQ

    Before You Start

The parent must have a Microsoft Account. This could be a @live.com, @msn.com or @outlook.com. If the parent does not have one, they can create one by visiting outlook.com. Please note. If the parent is creating a new account, they will need to send at least
one email to anyone before they can set up the child account. This email can be sent to anybody, even to themselves.

If you already tried to setup the phone without the child account properly set up, then you need to do a phone reset. Do this by going to settings > about > reset. When the reset is complete, start doing the things that are described below.

    Setting Up Child's Account

    • Visit outlook.com. Create an account for your child.
    • Once her account is created, send an email from her account to yours. Some kind of verification thing will pop up. Do this first. Then, check if the email from her account has reached yours.
    • Now, visit xbox.com. Login using her account. You should get a prompt to verify from a adult account. Continue with that and you will be prompted to enter your details. This is where you get to authorize her account.
    • Once the Xbox authorization is completed, come to the phone.
    • Turn on the phone. It should prompt you for Microsoft account details of your child. IT will go through without a hitch.
