I have 4X 4TB drives configured as RAID 1 mirroring. I assumed that meant that a copy of the data was also stored on the other drives since only 8TB of the 16TB is available. I ID'd the failing drive and replaced it. I'm unable to remove the drive from the pool even though it's physically uninstalled. All 4 HD's 3 original, one new show up as OK in Storage Spaces. I don't see the pool in Explorer. The new one with 0,23% used says OK, with the options "rename" like the other 3 and "prepare for removal". How do I access the existing data that's on the 75% of the original pool, or get the

How do I recover/repair my storage space?

I apologize if this is not in the correct forum.

I have a storage space on my personal computer that consists of 3 drives. My storage space is setup as parity. Last night I rebooted my machine and allowed it to install new Windows Updates and this morning when I came back to my system it had rebooted and my storage space has died!

As you can see in the image, this is my current status. 2 of my 3 drives are showing this warning status and the storage space has been rendered inaccessible. I am very skeptical that both of those drives actually physically became inoperable at the same moment and I do not hear any clicking or other signs of hardware failure. I desperately want to recover the data from my storage space but I am unsure how to proceed safely and I don't want to make things worse than they already are. If I can even just bring the storage space online long enough to copy the data off to another source that would be perfectly fine.

I've tried running Repair-VirtualDisk in Powershell with admin rights but it seems the job does nothing. When I run Get-StorageJob I can see the repair op in the list and just instantly appears as "Completed".

Can anyone provide me with some guidance?

Windows storage spaces data missing for no reason

I can't recall seeing anything like this before, although various issues related to Storage Spaces have been reported.

    Recovery
    One difficulty could be this:
You could try this trial software:
Storage Pool: How to recover data from Windows 10 Storage Space?

There is expensive data recovery software available to support Storage Spaces, suggesting a difficulty here. One person suggested these had been found helpful with S. Spaces:
    ReclaiMe Storage Spaces Recovery Software
    R-Studio Help - Introduction to R-Studio
    and there's this:

    - note the reliance on metadata.

    Metadata

Storage spaces use metadata. I haven't yet found quite how or what this is used for, but it's another possible vulnerability.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...-spaces-states

This gives a variety of Powershell commands some of which you might use to interrogate your Storage Space to determine more about its status.

How to Use Windows 10’s Storage Spaces to Mirror and Combine Drives

Are you using NTFS or ReFS?

The most basis seems to be simple, and NTFS- whilst the others provide some protection and resiliency.

I think elementary drive failure has been pretty much ruled out.

    Bottom Line
A few people who've used this and had problems have vowed 'never again'.

External Drive using storage spaces does not work on my new Win 10 PC?

    Hi Leo,

Storage Spaces not only increase storage over time as you add drivers to your PC, it will also help you in protecting your data from drive failures. To isolate your concern, we'd like to know if you were getting any error messages when trying
to connect the external drive to your new PC. Also, can you tell us what troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to perform a diagnostic process on your system that will check and fix issues related to Storage Spaces. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    • Type troubleshooting in the Search bar, then press
      Enter.
    • Click View all from the left pane.
    • Locate and click Hardware and Devices to run the troubleshooter then follow the next steps.

Furthermore, here is a link for more information about the Storage
    Spaces in Windows 10
    .

We'll be looking forward to your response.
