  1. How does BitLocker protect my PC without pre-boot password?

I just encrypted my system drive with BitLocker and was expecting to see a prompt for setting a password which will enable me to go through on the PC boot. But it never happened. I tried to reboot my PC to see how BitLocker is going to protect my PC. But nothing of this sort happened - I was just required to enter my PIN as ever.I searched a bit on the Internet to see what's wrong and found out that I can enable pre-boot password prompt but this requires going to the system register or command line or something and do some crazy stuff. I mean, I was expecting to be able to do this in one-clic

    :)

Bitlocker - Pre Boot Password - alpha, numeric, special characters

I am only able to setup Bitlocker to use a numeric PIN for pre boot authentication.

How can I setup Bitlocker to require a password using alpha, numeric, special characters for pre boot authentication?

  3. Pre-boot BitLocker password typing affected by TPM?

Thanks for the clarification. Still not sure why it would accept the password so slowly, but I guess I'm just not understanding why you would want to have to enter a password if you already have BitLocker. Wouldn't it be far easier to enable the TPM and dispense with the pre-boot password?

After all, you still have to enter a password (or a pin if using a Microsoft account) to logon the system after the initial boot anyway.

Not saying that you cannot do it the way are, I've just never seen anyone require a pre-boot password when they already have BitLocker with a TPM. After all, that's one of the big advantages of having a TPM - it does the authentication for you in place of a pre-boot password.

How does BitLocker protect my PC without pre-boot password?

Switching to black BitLocker pre-boot screen

On my previous Windows 10 PC, I enabled a setting that switched from the standard blue BitLocker screen to a plain-text black BitLocker screen. I have a new PC and want to do this again, but I can't remember how to do it. Can anyone tell me?

The screen I'm talking about is the pre-boot BitLocker password entry screen shown right after POST. (I don't have a TPM, so I have to enter a password there.)

The black screen I'm referencing was not BitLocker recovery or anything aberrant. It was a legitimate BitLocker pre-boot password screen, enabled via a Windows 10 setting. It was just black and had "uglier" text.
