  1. How does one remove 1809 update that did not install or does it have to be removed?

Things are getting a bit confusing about what to do if 1809 update has downloaded but not installed.

I have received conflicting information on how to remove an 1809 update (if really needs to be removed?) that downloaded, did not provide a restart notification, produced a new $Windows.~BT folder and in the View Update History there is a message saying the PC needs a restart to install.

The machine has been restarted a number of times including a successful 1803 cumulative update last night.

Can some one direct me to a definitive source of information on how individuals in my situation should handle this issue?

I have received the following suggestions - some directly from MS support

    - don't have to do anything as it won't install

    - delete Windows>Softwaredistribution>Download

(not sure the whole folder or just specific files?)

    - no need to delete $Windows.~BT

    - delete $Windows.~BT

(no info on how to delete this protected file)

    - use the info found at
    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/delete-downloaded-failed-pending-windows-updates

    Thanks in advance

    :)

    Remove account

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:
    1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:
      Code:
      net user test /del
