    How does windows hello affect computer sleep


    Hi, I generally set my computer to turn off display after a short time, for example 5 minutes, but to sleep at a later time, say, 20 minutes, to let maintenence and background tasks finish.


    Windows hello, however, causes me to need to log in every time the screen turns off. Does this mean the computer is going to sleep when the screen turns off? How can I tell if it's sleeping or the display is just off when I have to log back in each time?

    After Windows 10 Anniversary Update Computer Not Sleeping

    Hello.

    Does disabling the HID-Complaint Touch Screen driver resolves the issue? If yes, we suggest that you disable it and see if your device go into Sleep mode after a period of inactivity.

    We also suggest to check if the settings of the Power Options of your device are set so that the device will go into Sleep mode after a period of time. You may follow the steps below to check is Sleep mode is enabled on your device:

    • Press the Windows button + X, then click on
      Power Options.
    • Click Change when the computer
      sleeps.
    • Change the settings to your preferred settings.

    Recovery Screen Appears When Computer Attempts to Sleep


    I have the same problem, but it's intermittent. (More accurately: I haven't been able to determine the pattern. Likely affected by screen blanking time or system sleep time, as described by OP.)


    • Dell XPS 8700
    • i7-4790 processor
    • 24 GB RAM
    • 256 GB mSATA solid state boot drive
    • 64-bit: shipped with Windows 8.1 Pro, upgraded to Windows 10

    Hello,

    At this point, I suggest you to check the event viewers for specific events that might have occurred during the Sleep phase in Windows.

    To view activities in Windows, I suggest you to open the Event Viewer. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Go to the Control Panel and choose to click on the
      Administrative Tools icon.
    • The above action will open up a new window of the Administrative Tools where you will see the
      Event Viewer.
