How Favourites is supposed to work in Windows 10

    Hello
I don't know how favourites are supposed to work in Windoxs 10 but this is certainly not user friendly !
This is one of the reason I have instolled Google Chrome and don't use Edge

I've saved several Favorites sites using the little Star in Windows Edge, but after saving they disappear forever in Edge Black Hole.
Is there some magic trick dedicated to engineer to see the list of Favourite and select any ?
    In Chrome this is easy

    :)

  2. Favourites bar on Windows 10.

    To get favourites bar

Click "..." on the top right

Then settings -> Show the favourites bar

To get All you previous favourites in Windows 10:

If you sign in to Windows 10 with the same live id as your Windows 8.1, all your favorites should be synced. At-least that is how that feature is supposed to work.

  3. How is Event Online Help supposed to work?

    Cathy

Event Online is a Microsoft good intention not followed up. Most, but not all links, do not provide helpful advice. To create what was intended would have been a massive task. Not only are there a multitude of varying reports but their significance can range
    from great to inconsequential.

I have a section on interpreting Event Viewer reports here:

    gerrys template

Another good source on Event Viewer reports is here:

    Troubleshooting Information for Windows Events

The last site covers reports up to and including Windows 7 but does not generally cover Windows 8 and 10. However, a lot of advice based on Windows 7 has validity in the later versions of Windows. Techniques learnt in Windows 7 can be applied successfully
    in Windows 10.

  5. Hopefully you have a dual or triple monitor setup in order to custom arrange all of your Edge Favorites! With any browser you can drag Favorites in IE or bookmarks for the rest around to rearrange what is in view on the bar or tucked away on the links tab at the right end of the Favorites bar where everything ends up out of sight! Here I had to stre....tch... Edge out to even see a partial rearrangement showing an inflexibility.

As you have added quite a few things and watched as they stretched across the screen they dropped into the hidden zone there. And not too many have been staying with Edge as most feel it lacks a great deal of things. And as you can see from the screens Cliff S posted Edge is a bit awkward at first to get at the others hidden from view since the look of the button instead of a small dual arrow is what you click on to see the rest drop down.

Thank you Cliff thank you Night Hawk
@Cliff yes before I've see you answer (but after a while of searching) I did find that little slide button
But it doesn't give anything on my machine : impossible to see any favorites bar whatever I try to add in Edge Favorite it disappear forever
@night Awk You are right I'm fed-up to loose my time with that new leviathan that is Edge.
    Chrome Simply do the job.
I was expecting something brilliant from Edge but it just brings new issues !

  7. I guess you could actually give it a name like that. The new design is to make Edge a bit more isolated for security reasons by creating a sort virtual environment to a degree for web browsing. The problem however is how MS simply makes changes like this as you saw in W8 there without first having progressed far enough along to be worth the effort at the user end! *Confused

For me the problem was mainly being able to rearrange the Favorites imported only from IE of course which had to be enabled first to then see bookmarks imported from Waterfox, FF x64, Cyberfox, etc. or whichever other browser was set for default at the time. When 10 first arrived that had been Waterfox at first still default here on the 7 side of the 10/7 dual boot! For others it has been the lack of features being a main complaint.

How Favourites is supposed to work in Windows 10

indeed and the best security for an application is to just encourage not use it and on this matter Edge won

Actualy I did'nt import anything from other browser because I've upgraded my new W8 laptop to Windows 10 directly when it comes out of the box
But after some investigation on my different machines I've just discovered the problem
When saving to favorite, Edge open a Pop-Up proposing a Name and a Location
    The location proposed is "Favorite"
So I do not change anything because Indeed I need to save into "Favorite"
I then press save and that's it.... the Pop-Up closes without any warning
But in fact nothing was done !
What must be done is to click on that "Favorite" into the Pop-Up dialog.
It open a drop down Combo suggesting "Favorite.bar"
    Select "Favorite.bar"
Now the new Favorite is saved and appears in the Favorite bar

So next time you to play with Edge don't forget to have a run to the bar *Wink

Anyway, I will stay with Google Chrome until MS propose something really more friendly & exciting !

  9. The Favorites bar or Bookmarks with IE or any other browser was always in use here. Having a mountain of things to keep track of yet still wanting them organized is easily done with every other browser except Edge. In fact in order to get some type of favorable arrangement going I had to ssssssssssssssssssssssssssstretch Edge across the dual display set up here!

In fact the second 20" monitor runs at the 1600x900 screen res while the primary is a 10" running at 1440x900 since I was looking at the addition screen space I found I was lacking. While those in view are able to be moved around back and forth noting Bing at the far left you cannot drag anything under the arrow up onto the bar itself. So the things you want first in view have to be the last you save in that order! A regular pain in ...... *Rolleyes

Why not order them in the Hub(the 3 line icon)?
    1. Open the Hub
    2. open the Favorites bar icon
    3. arrange
(you can also create folder on the favorites bar for less used icons and name it accordingly)

  11. One thing or rather for use here is that you are not able to do is right click to rename anything. I'll give you an example. If I wanted to rename "Ohm's calculator" to "Ohm meter" to save space on the bar itself as well as to fit more out in view with any other browser I can right click the favorite or bookmark right on the bar itself. Edge only sees the "Open in new tab" and "Delete" options while on the Favorites bar itself.

For the rearrangement that is now the click on hub like you were saying and then on the "Favorites>Favorites Bar" folder option seen at the top of the dropdrop list of all Favorites and bookmarks which will be unassorted while most will be found in alphabetical order there until opening up the Favorites bar folder itself. Only then you can drag to rearrange and not while simply dropping the list of additional items that won't fit on the bar itself.

With IE or FF you can actually click and drag any bookmark even from the bottom of the dropdown list onto the main bar where you want it simply being a one step process while Edge is now a three step process. Plus you no longer have any right click options as far as checking or unchecking off the menu bar as well as Favorites or Bookmarks bar, Navigational tool, customize options, etc. I think this is urks a good number of people who feel that Edge lacks features due to the multi-step process for previously one step options!

Instead of seeing those options right in plain view you now need to scroll through the "...." four dot option at the far end as well as opening up the Settings to scroll through there to get at the very same options separated not by simply seeing separate jump lists on a menu bar but the need to open multiple screens! Most of the same options except for those few are still there but scattered into the depths of Edge making things more complicated for the typical user. You'll have to bear me to understand what I mean about MS making matters worse by complicating things further!

I like Edge(I got used to it by forcing myself to use it, and get used to it's idiosyncrasies) but as to what @Night Hawk said above,

It's definitely a browser you have to get the feel for! I said from the start I knew that it would take some time before seeing it grow into something more people will turn to as the new browser is developed further. MS has to take a closer look at user accessibility as far as how IE had been as far as right out in front to simply run upto a menu bar no longer being seen as far as convenience.

Some like Chrome which also tends to hide things away as well. Yet FF is still about the most popular of all for having followed a similar side by side path of ease of access with it's own flavorings naturally. What I have been finding here lately however is that simply relying too heavily on one browser simply does not work out too well. Having just added Cyberfox on lately to fill in for Waterfox which I have now been using for nearly 5yrs. it is acting up and freezing up when you have multiple browser windows open. But when having a window for each browser none seem to end up being sluggish and locking up. This is being seen not only on 7 which is long over due for a clean install but on 10 as well. Edge will be in there now with IE as a pair of spares! *Wink

I totally agree with what Night Awk is saying !
As a développer and having created some public application I know how UI design is important and I used to get ergonomy advice to fine the the UI against the common user behavior

I will call it "User-Behavior -> UI" approach
But is seems that a new trends by-pass this natural approach
    This is
Technologic concept -> UI -> Force to change user Behaviour

Of course some user will appreciate the challenge (sometime the puzzle)
But many will simply switch off for something else

The thing with Edge for me was, once I had it set up how I wanted/want it, I works fine, when I do my daily stuff, for other things I have IE, FF, Chrome, and CyberGhost 5 to get around the German GEMA on YouTube.
